I like the idea of using the brass etching to make the dreadnought stand out but the etching around the head is a bit much. It may just be the angle at which you took your pictures but it seems to me that the etchings are drowning out the work you did to get the head on there in the first place. This is just my opinion if you like the model you should keep it they way you made it.

I like the paint scheme. I think it's pretty unreasonable to suggest he change the entire army.

However, the camo pattern makes it hard to see detail, which means the important areas (head, weapons, marking, eagles) need to be painted in quite a striking, contrasting colour.

I think the problem on the dread is that it's hard to see a lot of the detail you put into the model. I would paint the head, etching/cage and exhausts in contrasting colours - maybe grey or a metallic for the exhausts, tobreak up the model a bit...

Otherwise, good work!

Automatically Appended Next Post:

warpcrafter wrote:Camo paint schemes just don't fit space marines, they don't hide from the enemy, they show up and act as much as a symbol of Imperial might as a material asset.
You might draw more attention to the striping of your army if you include some areas of paint not covered in patterns. Personally I don't enjoy patterns, but if I were to do a similar project, I would see how the Ironclad would look with one hand painted solid black, as well as darkening the piping and connecting areas. This contrast wont ruin your tiger scheme, and it'll give more shape to your models.

Ex: http://demonwinner.free.fr/usa/2002Chicago/Us%202002%20largescale%203%20Dave%20Andes.jpg

I think you have copped a beating in this thread for what is great work

In another thread I just read the opinion was split about the Marines Malevolent in the Salamanders story - for me its straight up, marines are defenders of humanity and all the fluff I have read supports that - in that sense I completely agree with warpcrafter - you cannot steal initiative from marines because they rely on their powerarmour to protect them while they return fire and suppress the enemy.

How does that apply here - these guys are clearly more concerned with achieving surprise - remember aircraft carriers use camo, there is NOTHING tactically unsound about using even the small amount of benefit if its there

I do agree applying this uniformly has obscured some detail - think there are probably some cunning ways you could get around this - put black edges around important details, consider your highlighting etc

Important point is like everything dont that opinions on the net to heart - its clear how much love and time you have put into this army, you must be proud of it so enjoy it!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Other thread http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/255933.page
