I would love to see some pictures if you have tried it.

The only thing I can find online is people using cotton, and the only examples I can find of that are really not what I am going for.

Any Ideas would be great, thanks!

*edit* I found this on Coolminiornot

I think cotton was used but I am not sure, any Idea what material was used?

If you only want it to steam when playing the piece you could always up model train smoke tabs. Also they sell small smoke generators for model trains.

Here is the link to one:

http://www.internettrains.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=MRK-7226&Category_Code=

Here is a you tube video of it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veJgylkMAR8&feature=fvw

Here is another link with a much better but more expensive smoke system with video:

http://www.eurorailhobbies.com/erh/km1.asp

You should check out this post from a while ago comparing different methods of smoke modelling.

I nabbed the final idea for some serious sniper muzzle flash action (still need to paint it, obviously).

The effect it constructed by coating bush foliage in superglue. The foliage soaks it up and goes a bit spiky and then the superglue sets rock hard. It uses a lot of glue, and you need to be careful to go slowly. Superglue heats up as it sets and if you use too much you can set fire to the foliage... not that that happened to me... oh no... not quite...
