Well, I'd drop the heavies and a few warriors to add in another monolith. Then I'd find the points to add in another destroyer and make two squads of 3. You'll probably have to drop more warriors to do this. Then change a lord to have a destroyer body to go with the destroyers (probably join one of the squads). Drop VOD on that one. I actually think you should drop VOD on both because I don't think it's that effective right now since necrons aren't really good in CC, which is what I assume you're using it for. That's quite a bit of stuff I've just suggested and I'd write out a list but I don't have the codex. So I hope you can make since of what I've said.

Yes, only 1 VOD per army and I don't recomend even taking one. You are way to heavy on the heavy supports. For cc additions try Flayed ones and use them to outflank. Also there is no better cc unit in the 'cron force than one of the C'Tan. Either one is good, personally I prefer the Nightbringer but Deceiver is just as good and saves you 60 points. Scarabs are also highly recomended as good disruption units and they're cheap. I would also add 2 warriors to your force and split them into four squads of 10.

thanks to all who have replied so far.

i feel a bit foolish for putting 2 VODs in the army list because i knew there is only one allowed. my bad. also, i think i should make it clear that i had planned to use the VOD as a means to escape/avoid CC since the warriors are practically useless in that regard. my plan was to have an army that can stay away from CC and destroy the enemy from a distance. however, i think it is almost necessary to have at least one unit of CC because all shooty may not win me the game. i think i should also note that i will be playing against chaos space marines, eldar, and 'nids primarily.

i will post a new list based on the advice given to me soon.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
so the new list is as such:

HQ - 500 pts

1xNecron Lord - 200 pts
[res orb + VOD]

1xThe Deceiver - 300 pts

Elites - 168 pts

8xFlayed Ones - 168 pts
[Disruption Fields]

Fast Attack - 420 pts

3xDestroyer - 150 pts

3xDestroyer - 150 pts

10xScarab Swarms - 120 pts

Troops - 432 pts

12xWarriors - 216 pts

12xWarriors - 216 pts

Heavy Support - 470 pts

1xMonolith - 235 pts

1xMonolith - 235 pts

Point Total = 2000
Phase Out = 9

now the question is would it be better to run the lord with the flayed ones and let the monoliths take care of the troops, or to run him with a squad of troops? i've also thought of giving him a destroyer body instead of the VOD and running him near the destroyers. what do you think?

Necrons 2000 pts. advice appreciated

The biggest problem I have with the current list is that two dedicated assault squads that reach your necron warriors will almost phase you out. That was also my problem with the first list. Having so many warriors in a single squad is a huge gamble with necrons. If a banshee/harlequin/beserker/stealer squad charges you they have a decent chance of sweeping your squad meaning you loose 12 models out of the 30 they need to phase you out. The assault squad will then die, but that is no big deal they have achieved their objective. If they are able to sweep both (which happens) then they only need to hunt down your flayed ones which will be easy pickings. The biggest flaw is that they only have to kill 30 models and can ignore 890 points. On the other hand if they try to kill of your monoliths and deciever then you can pretty much garantee a win.

Also another option for cc is 2 or 3 squads of 3 Wraiths + Destroyer lord w/ warscythe res orb and phase shifter. You have a lot of high strength attacks and the lord ignores all saves and can kill any tank except other monoliths. It is a highly mobile force that takes some practice to use correctly, but when you do they are a terror on the field. They work best against squads like banshees who rely on their power weapons to kill things instead of high number of attacks. Best of all they are necrons too and hard to kill ones at that so they count towards phase out. Biggest problem and the reason I dont like to use them is if you take them then you cant use destroyers. Another small point is that if the metagame in your group is more melta then they do very well, they get a 3++ save and a 4+wbb save (unless your over six inches away from the res orb) and can charge 18inches over any terrain

I disagree with Gavin Thorne and NecronLord3. You only really need three squads of 10 warrior or maybe even just two squads of 12.
So what are you going to buy with the huge savings of 72 points? You are wasting points on Warrior squads more than 10 men strong, due to SA. An army build of 3 ten man squads is better IMO, than odd ball numbers of warriors. I only took a few extra warriors in past games because I had extra points left over and not enough extra bases of Scarabs to use them with. I have since remedied my short supply of scarabs. Also, I will still argue that Warriors are a great troops choice and only suffer from low initiative.

I really don't get why them being slow even matters? You aren't going to want to get them into CC anyways, as they are average at best. Their strength is sitting in cover and firing. Once most opposing units are destroyed you advance them to objectives. Any that are needed for objectives further on the battlefield should be transported via Monolith. The only units warriors aren't a match for in range are Tau Firewarriors and weapons that the Warriors aren't going to want to get closer to anyway. Necrons have plenty of faster units if needed. Warriors work fine. Do you want an iron coffin for your troops like Space Marines have?

thanks guys, for the good reviews. to those of you who asked about where i'll be running the destroyer lord: i will probably run him with the heavy Ds to keep my big guns safe. i think i could be pretty versatile with him though if i don't have him attached to a unit. that way if, say, a squad of warriors is in trouble with power weapons, etc, i could zip him into range to get the WBB roll. i haven't got to play this list yet, so we'll see what happens when i do and see what's better. i was also considering running the 3rd squad of warriors in reserve, but that ties up the portal and particle whip until i can bring them through. any suggestions on that?

Hold all 3 in reserve. With 5th you can do this like every other army. Then you'll just have to choose during deployment if you will use one or more squads for Monolith reserve deployment. I would probably only do this if you are fairly confident your opponent won't destroy your Monolith quickly(you only have one in this build after all), and/or if you hold your Monolith in Reserve as well. A reserve deployment of your Monolith paired with a chain teleportation of your reserve Warrior squad is effective, nasty and scary for your opponent.

Edit: Don't forget that by not attaching the Lord to a squad, it can be picked off in 5th edition.(More advisable with the Phase shifter)

The most important thing is to play the army, learn the capabilities of the units and make sure it is an army that is fun to play. List building will only get you so far, in the end it comes with making good tactical decisions and, most importantly, remembering to make offerings to the dice gods before games.
