Painting Bone

Hi all

Sorry if this has come up before but I'm having some real trouble finding tutorials with search. *prepares to be flamed*

I'm starting some mortifactors and I'd like a quick(ish) way of painting bone that looks good and doesn't involve drybrushing (because of the small areas such as the bottom half of the helmet)

Any help appreciated. (screenies would be great, too)

Cheers!

I do at least three steps:

Scorched Brown basecoat
Bleached Bone overcoat
Skull White highlights

You can detail this of course, mixing intermediate steps of Scorched Brown and Bleached Bone or Bleached Bone and Skull White in between to layer it up.

The idea of a Devlan Mud or other wash to tie it all together would not hurt in any event.

Re:Painting Bone

The most realistic effect I get on bone is from working up scorched brown to beastial brown to snakebite elather to bleached bone, followed by some tiny white highlights...be careful not to overload your brush as doing so will cause big flat colors which tends to look cartooney, use a minimal amount of the lighter paints to just barely cover what you want covered...you'll wind up with a very old and beaten down look to your bone
