Sorry if this has come up before but I'm having some real trouble finding tutorials with search. *prepares to be flamed*

I'm starting some mortifactors and I'd like a quick(ish) way of painting bone that looks good and doesn't involve drybrushing (because of the small areas such as the bottom half of the helmet)

Any help appreciated. (screenies would be great, too)

I have found the following build up taken from a White Dwarf Article to be a great way of making bone:

  • Base Coat: Scorched Brown

  • 1st Highlight: Beastial Brown

  • Optional Intermediate: 50% Bestial Brown/50% Filthy Brown
    •
  • 2nd Highlight: Filthy Brown

  • 3rd Highlight: Bleached Bone

  • Optional Intermediate: 50% Bleached Bone/50% Skull White
    •
  • 4rth Highlight: Skull White (edges only)
    •



    Just took some WIP shots that gives a better break down of the technique. As you can see, one side has been built up to Filthy Brown while the other is at the Bleached Bone Stage

    Scorched Brown basecoat
    Bleached Bone overcoat
    Skull White highlights

    You can detail this of course, mixing intermediate steps of Scorched Brown and Bleached Bone or Bleached Bone and Skull White in between to layer it up.

    1. Basecoat with Snakebite Leather
    2. Shade with Devlan mud
    3. For first highlight mix 50:50 Snakebite and Bleached Bone
    4.For second highlight use Bleached Bone
    5. And if you want a third highlight 50:50 Bleach Bone ad Skull White

    Prime: White or black doesn't matter

    Basecoat: Dheneb Stone ( nice even coat)

    Wash with gryphonne sepia.

    Then highlight with bleach bone, leaving the darkened colours from the wash.

    Then highlight again with a 50:50 mix of bleach bone to skull white.

    Base- Dheneb stone (Rakarth Flesh for the new range)
    wash- Devlan Mud (Agrax Earthshade)
    Layer- Ushabti bone
    2nd layer- Screaming Skull
