Help! How can I make a mold to copy my original weapon ideas?

Hey all I've made some of my own completley original things like land raider doors close combat weapons, demon weapons and a few other things like shoulder pads out of green stuff. I have a large army and i'd like to equip them with identical pieces to save time, money and make them look so much more uniform.

So I want to build the pieces that I have made onto a sprue and build some kind of mold, but I don't realy know what kind of mold I need or what the proccess is. There's a lot of tutorials for making different molds on the internet like platinum silicone and plaster, but I don't know if the resin will take to those and still be removable without ruining the molds or having to destroy the mold to remove what ever I've made.

And also I don't know what ingredients to add together in order to get resin.

Any information that anyone can share will be very helpful and much appreciated! Thank you for your time and help.

For the mold material, you want RTV (silicone). This will give you a re-usable mold that will be good for 30-50 resin castings. Resin is nothing that can be made at home from ingredients - you'll need to purchase it.

Look at smooth-on or allumilite for your RTV and Resin. Expect to spend about $30 on each of the RTV and Resin kits. Most of the tutorial's you've found will list which materials they use & where they purchased them.

http://chicagoterrainfactory.wordpress.com/resin-casting/
http://chicagoterrainfactory.wordpress.com/2007/03/21/bases-making-an-rtv-mold/

Thank you that was very informitive! But I do have some questions about the silicone mold... it was only a one part mold, wich means half of what I am casting will need to be flat, unfortunatly everything I want to make a mold of has detail on all sides and there are a lot of things I want to mold at the same time to save time so I was thinking about building a sprue around all my pices, and tho I don't know much about the process I think to do that I would need to make a 2 part mold, do you know of a way that I could do that to make resin pices?

For a two part mold, bury the master in art clay, pour RTV for the mold side 1. When the RTV is set, remove the clay & pour RTV for side 2. The learning curve on 2 part molds is higher than for a 1 sided mold. You need to cleanly join the edges of the mold or you'll get a lot of flash. You also need a mold release to keep the two parts from bonding - Vaseline works well. Depending on the master, you could also pour the mold in one shot & then cut the mold in two.

The best information I've seen on making RTV molds comes from the Hirst Arts site:

http://www.hirstarts.com/moldmake/moldmaking.html
