Black Templars and Drop Pods

I realize its not as sexy for them because right at the start your Emperor's Champion cannot be in a DP, but is there a way to play Drop Pod effectively with BT and is it worth it?

I don't know much about black templar drop pod lists (actually, the only thing I know is they use the old drop pod rules), but this list seems fun:

http://www.yesthetruthhurts.com/2009/02/best-of-black-templar.html

um the EC can most certainly be in a drop pod. As an independent character he can always join a unit and arrive with them from reserve.

He cant join another characters retinue, thats all.

Re:Black Templars and Drop Pods

I see most people like running heavy on Dreadnoughts and 5 man tac squads w/ Meltas. That seems solid against hard armor and elite stuff like Termies and Monstrous creatures etc, but if you drop pod that style into a Horde army won't you get torn to pieces, (Kill point mission means you are done.)

So if you drop pod in the troops you just hold back the heavy vehicles and roll to bring them in on the 2nd turn etc?

Otherwise, they won't last 1 turn.

Dropping dreads is a bit more fun. Just be sure he takes out the nearest heavy weapon. Getting immobilized or blown up on the subsequent turn is counter productive.

Personally, I'm partial to the Black Templar Assault Marine Squads if I need to get behind enemy lines. 10 assault marines and an assault chaplain have good survivability and can muck stuff up!
