Barinstorming SWs lists

Typeline — GMT

I was thinking of different lists types with the new SWs book and I was thinking of three ways it could go, WG terminators and LRs, Troops Rhino Rush, or Troops Drop Pod assault. Here is each list, I'm not looking for fluff, I could care less. I just want this list to win.

Weaknesses: Super low model count, will have lots of trouble with horde armies.

Wow, you must like cookies cutting.
Ok so... I think the HQ's can't be cookie cut, as they have to be different in gear or power or something like that.

The list look meh at this point.

The pod list, the speeders don't look like the fit very well.

Last note: wait for the codex actually?

Cookie cutting

Just doesn't work. All those meltas and multi meltas make some sense in a SM Vulcan list, but you should be planning for multiple opponents. Those builds would lose badly against Tyranid gaunt lists or orc horde.

The idea of "just wanting to win" is fine, but this is NOT the way to do that.

Better still than just winning, is to have a list that wins some and loses some but has creative dimensions.

If you want power play, I doubt even new SW is right>

Run to CSM and start your list with Abaddon and whatever else takes your fancy.

Big A could rape all four of your rune priests for breakfast.

News just in they are saving revamping the old charachters until the second release in a years time .... I'm really pissed off as I was looking forward to painting a new better looking Ragnar (painted the old one when I was 15 I'm a bit better now ten years on!)

So, besides "lol switch armies" and "SW not right for u" do you have anything to add?

And in a weird scenario where 4 Run Priests fight Abbadon I don't think he will survive 4d6 Str 7 shots or passing 4 initiative tests (but hey he has a better shot at the initiative tests really). Anyways, no one runs Abbadon, just Lash Princes.

Went and read the codex some more, Sanctjud had me there. Don't know how I missed that. Can't cookie cut any of the characters. But I'm going to try and stay away from the special characters in this book. The Logan lists I just don't think are worth it. But I do like the following core to a more infantry based SW list, which is the one I think I'd like running more.

10x GH, 2x Melta in Rhino 190
10x GH, 2x Melta in Rhino 190
10x GH, 2x Melta in Rhino 190

5x LF, 4x Lascannon in DP 210
5x LF, 4x Lascannon in DP 210

This would leave room for all kinds of characters, WG in termie armor, LR, or anything that really needs to be addressed. I'm pretty confident in this kind of core to take on most stuff. It does it pretty cheaply too. Tell me what you think? Maybe the layout of the LFs should change to something more versatile or their weapon for anti-tank should be MMs?

I think a mark of the wulfen guy in those GH makes them better.. gives rending and more attacks and cost 15 points.

I'll rate the lists

1st List:

Your first list is illegal, the Rune Priest can't both have LL and JotWW and you missed out on Tempests Wrath which is heresy. Also, you should have WTT.

LR spam for SW is like trying to be Deathwing but not actually being able to do it as well. It just isn't good enough. The Lone Wolves should have Stormshields and CF.

3/10. Relies completely on Scoring LR's.

2nd List:

Again, Illegal. And such a POOR use of psychic powers. Also, why no Choser of the Slain? Why no Saga of the Beast Slayer combined with LL and Choser?

GH are not that good in assault.

This army would be better in DP's.

4/10

This rune priest is better but Tempest > Jaws. Screwing over Mechadar, RAF, and BA completely is THAT important.

GH should have MotW and you need Flamers.

Why not just run vanilla? This lists takes almost no advantage of what Swolfs have except for one rune priest.

For that reason 3/10

Yes, MotW works with the charge bonus. The only restriction is that MotW doesn't work with special CC weapons and you can't benefit from the +1 attack for having two CC weapons.

From the codex:

A model bearing the Mark of the Wolfen has the rending special rule in close combat. Furthermore, his usual attacks characteristics with d6+1, rolled immediately prior to when the model makes his attacks. These attacks are...not affected by wargear, additional hand weapons and so on, though they may be bolstered by other factors (bonus for charging, Logan Grimnar's Living Legend ability, etc.)

Longfangs butcher X-Ports. HB --> Anti-Infantry because the GH are just melta-delivery squads. TWC take out vehicles or stay back. Njal Goes with Wolves. IP can be agressive or defensive.

I think it's a bit too early [for me] to start cutting up the codex into Standard Lists, but these are some of the basic building block units I've been using when designing lists (quantum SW particles ):

Note - NOT A LIST! Just ideas for unit load outs I've been kickin' around in my head.

Logan - 275 pts
1 Rune Priest with Master of Runes and Chooser of the Slain - 160 pts. He's not here to kill WS5+ things in CC, so I don't think Wolf Tooth Necklaces have a pace in his loadout
1 Rune Priest with Master of Runes, Chooser of the Slain and Saga of the Beast Slayer - 170pts Using Saga of the Beast Slayer to re-roll Living Lightning attacks against MC's, Walkers and T5+ guys is a cool idea. Tip o' the hat to whoever came up with it

5 Wolf Scouts with Melta Bombs and 1 Melta Gun - 110pts
5 Wolf Scouts with Flamer, Melta Bombs, MotW and 2 Power Weapons - 150pts
1 WG with a combi melta and pFist - 43 pts
1 WG with a combi flamer and pFist - 43 pts
1 WG with melta bombs and pair of WC's - 53 pts

10 GH with MotW, 2 Melta Guns and a Drop Pod - 200 pts
10 GH with MotW, 1 Melta Gun, 1 Flamer, Drop Pod - 195 pts
10 GH with MotW, 2 Melta Guns and Rhino with Extra armor - 220 pts
10 GH with MotW, 1 Melta Gun, 1 Flamer and Rhino with Extra armor - 215 pts

I think MotW is mandatory for GH squads. d6+1 rending attacks (d6+2 on the charge)!

5 Wolf Guard with 5 Combi Weapons and a drop pod - 145pts <----- What does Dakka think of this in a Logan list? One or two of these units and any 4/5 of the previously mentioned GH drop pod units could be interesting. You can sub out combi weapons for melta bombs for no change in cost. Pricey though. A DP'ing MM dread fills a similar roll and will last longer.

15 fenrisian wolves - 120 pts make sure you have a character with Saga of the Wolfkin for the I5 and ld 7. Keeping some TWC nearby for the morale re-rolls is also pretty handy
4 TWC with 1 Melta Bomb and 1pFist - 235 pts
In objective missions it might be worthwhile to keep your cavalry in reserve so you can assault units that take/contest objectives near your deployment zone (a 19' to 24' threat should be enough to keep you from getting shot first)

6 Long Fangs with 5 ML - 140 pts
6 Long Fangs with 5 MM and Drop pod - 170 pts goes with logan for relentless fun
1 WG termi with cyclone missle launcher - 63 pts (goes with the long fangs. A combi weapon or melta bombs is a possible option when DP'ing for +5 pts)

How good do you guys think TWC are? S5 and T5 with five attacks base is pretty hard. Are they going to be the one unit in the codex that really shines and starts showing up in every build?

I think that they are very good. The reason I'm going to say that they WILL NOT start showing up in every build is because they are not immortal warriors. Two missile launchers could take out one of my 190 point units no problem. That's why they HAVE to have SS.

The units you will see spammed IMO are:

Rune Priests

Wolf Packs + Saga of the Wolfkin (This is self explanitory methinks. Yeah, 15 Cavalry that are I5 and hit like marines with 3 attacks on the charge apeice? Hells yeah. For 120 points for the 15 of them? Jesus Christ. Orks - Meet Wolf Pack, Wolf Pack, meet dinner.)

When you say Rune Priests will be spammed do you mean literally spammed? There are only 3 or 4 really good psychic powers on that list Jaws and Living Lightning being at the top. Or is it just for their ability to counter other psyker powers?

Yeah I can totally see the Wolf Packs all over the place.

This is what I've been thinking so far, just because of how much I love LRs. Machine Spirit is so good, I'm used to crappy Demonic Possession. But the idea here is to split the WG termies up to two of the GH units and the third GH unit joining into the WG LR first turn. Then have each character I select go along for the ride in the LRs as well. But I don't know how I want to kit them out. I know I need a Wolf Lord with Wolfkin and a couple large wolf units.
