Two Fold Question, Army Swapping & Bretonnia ('Ard Boyz)

Hey, so, long story short. Recently, I played my 3rd, 4th and 5th games of WFB, during the 'ard boyz tournament.

I had to borrow a buddies army, which he was alright with. None the less, I was playing Dwarves and I came in second, which means I move on to round 2.

So, my first question is, I just got ahold of an army of my own, Bretonnia! yey. <_< I guess.

Q1. Do you have to play the same army that you started the tournament with (assuming you're going to the second round)?

Also, in the thread about the 'Ard Boyz results across the country, I saw 2 Bretonnian players placing in the top 3.. So this leads into question the second. (EDIT: Because I'm a dunce. <_&lt

Q2. Is Bretonnia at all competitive? Are there any lists that are both fun to play and effective in any way? Or would I be better off sticking with Dwarves and pray that I get lucky?

Thanks for your time.

You can change your army from round to round (preliminary, semi finals or finals) if you wish.

And brets are competative, sure, but they have their own issues to deal with compared to dwarves. I'd probably decide after I see the senarios.

Two Fold Question, Army Swapping & Bretonnia ('Ard Boyz)

Yea, that's why I was leaning towards Thorgrim dwarves for the scenarios, because 90% of people stay the heck away from him.. and the first and third scenario were perfect for keeping him alive. That being said, <_< I'm also very unfamiliar with Bretonnia, and thusly don't have a clue as to what their competitive lists would look like. >_>

All I really know is that they look purdy.

Re:Two Fold Question, Army Swapping & Bretonnia ('Ard Boyz)

Brettonia are a fairly straightforward army to play. They will either obliterate their opponent on the charge, or die messily as they get bogged down.

The trick with a brettonian force is multiple charges on units...since their unit width is only 3, you can usually hit a unit with two of yours..that will usually crush anyone who isnt either unbreakable, or stubborn. Small units of roaming knights, plus big blocks of errant or grail knights, backed with heroes are usually your best bet, pegasus knights are great, and trebuchet can help kill big beasties.

Daemons will give you trouble unless you literally annhilate everything you charge, since they will never break. dwarves can be tough too, but in our tourney the bret player mopped the floor with him...

Its basically an army that relies heavily on charge orders, and to be honest, lucky/good dice rolls...(but what army doesnt really?)

hope that helps.

Two Fold Question, Army Swapping & Bretonnia ('Ard Boyz)

Hrm. So would it be better to utilize small units in multiples of 3, combined with fliers?

I've heard the discussion of the BAF, but it wasn't keen on it.

Though looking at Loeun, he seems like a good character to center an army around, however it would make it difficult to fill core choices then. >_>

I found that having a strong resilient character as a backbone was kinda helpful, given the scenarios. But I guess, waiting would be a good idea.

Anyone any other decent strats or Bret tactics that would be beneficial?

Thanks for all the responses btw.

Re:Two Fold Question, Army Swapping & Bretonnia ('Ard Boyz)

An army of bretts that I have seen work well is basically two unit of 6 knights of Realm, (use your characters in here, put a damsel dispel caddy and a hero or such...adding these will increase the lance formation, and make it more efficient), one unit of 9 errant..full command...unit of 9 grail, full command...6 pegasus knights (two units of three) and hero on peg. 2 trebucets.....get a BSB with the rank killer banner and virtue of heroism for nasty monster squishing and that army will hit like a ton of bricks. I personally find peasants free point sinks. I would use minimal units for quarter grabbing if you have any spare, or mounted yeomen for bait and switch...brettonians can actually be a defensive army with this tactic....set knights on flanks, yeoman in the middle, draw em in, hit em in the sides....if they go after a flank of knights, hit them in the butt with the opposing flank.

its all about timing!

Cool.

I was actually thinking of doing the inverse, 3K.

Louen
GK

Damsel Dispel Caddy
Damsel Dispel Caddy
Hero on Peg
Hero BSB
Hero Grail vow

2x 6 Errant

2x 9 Realm

4x Pegasus

9x Grail

and try and pick upa couple trebuchet, if I've got the points. Just for some heavy hitting, and put 1 damsel with them.

That was my inital take. <_<

(I also realize this is kinda an army list. <_< but this is tactics, rite?)
