Doesn't look like they have changed anything (other than the new brushes).

Well its a good deal for us Aussies compared to buying all the paints separately at AU$6 each. Do the math and you get 5 paints for free and everything else is thrown in too. I think its $400ish in Aus.

Very pricey, I really don't see why they have to produce a paint set that's so expensive and probably out of the price range of most hobbyists, to be honest they should release small paint packs like they did back in the day , anybody remember this cool set ?

I wonder if you can write to GW and have them replace all the other washses with just more pods of Devlan Mud? Or maybe just fill the flock tubs with Devlan Mud instead?

I still don't understand who would buy this. The way I see it is if you're just starting out, you're not going to fork out that much money for paints. If you've been into the hobby for a while, you've got most of the paints already and probably don't need to replace all of them at the same time....

are the new foundation lids better or worse than the regular ones? like stated earlier, it looks like the mega set switched to them. does anyone know if the ml per bottle stayed the same with the switch? gw tends to use packaging changes to LOWER the amount of paint in each pot.

I agree with the people who state they don't know whom this is aimed at (rich new players) but I disagree with those who call this a bad deal. Obviously some GW things are hideously overpriced, like the glue (or the non-mega set for $367), but the current price of $198 is about right for what you get, IMO. I think it unlikely you can the same amount of stuff in a "better" brand like Vallejo/Reaper or whatever, include the other stuff, and have it cost less then $200, even factoring in things like subbing 50 cents worth of elmers for the $8 PVA.

On the GW site everything (foundation, washes, normal paints) are listed as 12ml.

Judging by the picture in WD 357 its going to come in a plastic case. Looks like its the exact same case as the tool kit.

They have the same amount of paint (12 mL). I prefer the rubbery foundation lids since the old ones would pop open if left in the heat.

I would rather buy this one pack than each bit of it seperately. In British pounds it works out about £252.25 for the lot and you can get it for £150 so over all it aint actually all that bad

yeah,
when i decided to replace all my paints i bought two paint sets. one for home and one for work... it's so nice to use a full set of fresh paint.

I bought mine when it was the metal case, with plastic paint trays... does this new case mean that they just stuff the paint into standard foam troop trays? if so you gotta factor in that you also get a standard carry case.

I'm going to buy it. I've just about finished my slaanesh and tyranid armies and need a break.
I'm going to buy this and paint some single models, a set of random monsters/heros for advanced heroquest, blood bowl teams, space hulk stuff, necromunda gangs, bfg and some man o war stuff.
It should be a joy to use!
The only thing I need to do now is ask if my local GW could order it for me and let me swap out and select good looking brushes when I come to pick it up.

to be fair, you'd have to take off 20% from the gw individual prices to compare apples to apples. also, you didn't add in the carrying case price. regardless, i agree that it's a much better deal than buying them separately. i'm considering it since i've gotten back into 40k after almost 6 years off (and plenty of time for my paints to dry).

a friend of mine says he loses alot of paint with the new foundation lids since apparantly you have to pull them pretty far back in order to keep them from snapping shut. he says that tends to make them drip down the back. do you guys have that problem?

I have the old mega set, pre-foundation, also contained inks instead of washes. Before I got it, I was useing regular craft store paint at something like 99 cents a tube. I have to say, the citadel colour is definitely far better quality, but not without problems. For one, some colors seem quite a bit thinner than others, and the brushes aren't as good quality as ones I have bought for less money at the craft store. I have a few Valejo colors I got from my flgs, I find them to be of better quality than my Citadel paints, and a better deal to boot Think I would rather spring for the less expensive 72 color Valejo set than the new GW one.

I started of with the Monster Paint set plus black, white and gold paints by a.n.other (some 20 odd years ago!), great stuff. This formed the core of my paint collection for quite some years, I still have the box and the plastic packaging/tray but most of the paints have dried up :(

So great news, I've been waiting for this to be re-released!

Seems like good value to me, but I was hoping for a metal case, plastic would take the shine off of it for me.

So this and possibly a White Dwarf subscription (for the space dwarf mini, Honestly!) on the old shopping list, this could see me as the target for quite some flak on Dakka (and from the Mrs of course!).

I have found that if you do take the lid all the way back, you need to set the jar on a tilted surface to allow the drip to fall back in the jar.

I set it on the edge of a coaster to achieve this. I use a bit of bluetack to secure it from falling.

I have that set, and it is well worth it. I bought it online for a 30% discount, which made it even better.

The brushes are good, the basing material is very useful, I love having all the colors and the case now carries my wood elf army.

I highly recommend the mega paint set.
