Space Marines Vs Necrons. Need tips

Heya all. I recently have gave up the boys for my space marines and I really dont know of the best ways to dispatch the necron player at my store. He has just about any options for his army but he typically fields destroyers and scarabs as the bulk of his army (With lots of warriors as normal.). Normaly we play at 1000 points and only at times he will field his monolith which seems to be my biggest issue. I dont have as many options. I dont have any vindicators. But I have a land raider redeemer (great for melting necron warriors) Tons of devys' and drop pods as well as standard things like dreadnoughts terminators and tacts'. But I havent found a good strat or army build thats perfect for necron killing. Any tips?

Venerable dreadnoughts are an absolute nightmare for necrons. Armor is tough to kill with most necron stuff now, and getting a re-roll just makes it worse.

Also, take a ton of missle launchers, stay at range and pick off his destroyers, and then immortals.

Yeah, destroyers are best countered by popping them from a distance as you advance. Unfortunately Scarab Swarms can turbo boost for a 2+ cover save and generally do on the first turn, followed by a charge into your most vital tactical unit and tying it up for half of the game. Hence devastators are not so useful... A more combat-oriented army will generally do better, as Necron are easy to run down if you get a couple of power weapons in and win combat... plus choppy units won't be tied up by scarabs for as long.

I play most of my games against a necron player and I've found that loading up on plasma weapons does the trick. I usually don't use anything with an armor value against them because everything they shoot at you can potentially glance armor. Maybe some rhinos to act as portable bunkers for tac. squads. Also take a captain and command squad and load the command squad up with power weapons. Get them into combat and shred anything short of the Nightbringer. Then have your plasmagun/plasma cannon tac squads dismantle the rest of his army.

Space Marines Vs Necrons. Need tips

Necron Warriors and Immortals fear assault troops. They're easy to beat in CC and if they break will almost certainly be run down. A fast moving assault unit eats scarabs well too.

Destroyer bodies are just as vulnerable to assault, but hard to catch. Bikes, perhaps? Constantly threaten the charge, and boost to chase their boost. You'll need a sarge with LCs or a pfist to properly threaten to win but tying them up might be just as good.

Necrons have hard times with vehicles. Only HeavyDs and the Monolith can penetrate medium armor, only the Monolith is AP 1, and it takes a LOT of glances to put a vehicle down in 5th. Necrons can do a decent job of preventing vehicle shooting, but actual kills will take quite a while. Remember, they only have S6 and down or S9 for shooting. A transport with extra armor is pretty hard to stop for Necrons, and even a full unit of Destroyers will only pick up 1.5 penetrating hits. And unlike slowly disintegrating a Russ or empty Land Raider, Necrons on foot can't afford to sit in range of a shaken transport.

The big threats are the Monoliths and Destroyers.

I'd say, along with everyone else, getting them in close combat is your best bet. Just focus your attacks on the warriors and they'll phase out most likely.

If you shoot at necrons you just play to their strength. Even with low ap stuff they will have res orbs. Assault the warriors with about anything, same goes for immortals. Destroyers are tough to catch because of their speed but they tend to move around alot and get away from the res orb. They are also in small squads so concentrate some fire so they don't get back up. Necrons are easily the weakest army in 40k so don't get to cheesy against them or it won't be much fun.

Re:Space Marines Vs Necrons. Need tips

Space Marine Scouts, assault style with a combi-flamer and powerfist.
No really, it's true.
They're good at killing warriors and killing scarabs.
They also start where the necrons don't want them... closer.

Plasma is good, but Krak Missiles are better.
Devastators with 3 Missile Launchers + 1 Lascannon are the bee's knees.

Keep a unit within 4 inches of the entrance of the Monolith.
It will allow you to charge anything that comes out of the portal unless Monolith moves.
Staying that close will force the Lith to risk blowing itself up if it wants to target the offending unit with its flux arc.

Destroyers are really good, but have a maximum of 5 wounds for the unit.
These are the primary Krak Missile target. (remember to saturate)

Remember Warriors (without a Res Orb within 6") may not WBB after getting croaked by a Krak Missile.

Unless the Warriors, Immortals, Destroyers have a D-fields (unlikely) Dreadnoughts will annihilate them.
But keep in mind, dreadnoughts are stun bait for gauss.

Whirlwinds + assault troops with power weapons. The whirlwind forces him to spread his troops out to avoid taking a lot of wounds but by spreading them out it makes it easier for your assault troops to get in melee since they have a bigger footprint on the playing field.

Whirlwind is overwhelming meh. Ven Dreads aren't worth the points.

The big problem here is creating a good list. There's no need to load on plasma to cut down necs. Cyclone MLs/Typhoon MLs are a big friend of yours (2 Typhoons are mandatory in my list ) for denying wbb otherwise just charge, you have the same profile but higher initiative and power weapons/fists which should be fair enough.
