So my question is; if the maxim squad on the grey hunter is 5-10 (so 10) am I allowed to take 10 grey hunters and 1 wolf guard?

I understand that, but what I'm saying, is what if you have only 2 squads to split them to, then you are left with 1 Wolf Guard all by his lonesome if you buy a min sized WG squad. Conversely, if you only take 1 unit of 10 wolf guard, and then split 2 of them off, you're left with 8 in your squad.
