1: Characters + Chariots = No Special Slot taken up, and Chariot can now negate ranks w/ Flank Charge.

2: Lone Chariots = Big Target for armies that have multi-wound ranged weapons, S7-or-above spells / war machines, etc. Take multiple, usually two-or-more if you plan on having any.

3: Unless hitting flank with said Character Chariot (and usually even then), always send in rank & file to give combat res alongside the Chariot.

4: If you want to be a dick, maximize models in contact while touching an enemy Wizard or low-defense character. D6+1 S5 Impact Hits usually = Bad End for them.

Chariot Tactics?

Impact hits are distributed like shooting - ie you won't touch a character with them unless there's less than 5 models in the unit. Feel free to then direct your horses and riders' attacks to the hero after that, though.

As far as chaos chariots go, a pair is a good choice. I used to run them pretty often back when they were core choices. Just make sure you either use them together, or use them with ranked units. A unit of chaos warriors charging with a chariot is a nice, solid offensive hit - that most people flee from. Beware this, because it's quite possible your fast-moving chariot will catch the running enemy and complete its charge while your warriors fail, leaving the chariot off by itself.

Characters in chariots is something I avoid now. When not charging they're slower than marching infantry, and while the chariot is nice defense against shooting, in close combat you get off your chariot if anyone challenges you. Also, I miss the days of charging in a chariot with a greatweapon at S7 - now with the mounted nerf, you'd only be S6.

Khornate chariots are a bit of a liability, as with frenzy the enemy could bait you into charging into terrain - a very very very bad thing for chariots. Stick with undivided or go with Slaanesh. Nurgle would be nice to avoid enemy shooting like bolt throwers, but it doesn't affect cannons and stone throwers, the real enemy.

A mounted character should have a shield for the save or a flail for S7 or both.

I agree that chariots are best in pairs.

Additional uses:
They can make very nice rear defense behind your infantry line, threatening landing zones for enemy fliers.

Used offensively, you can move them up together (staggared) towards an enemy cavalry unit, have one flee from their charge, and the second smack the cav in the face.
