Charging through a unit

Sorry for the poor diagram.

The distance from the Triangles to the X's is about 5 inches between the O's and more than 6 inches by going around the O's.
The distance between the two O models is about 1.5 inches.

So, the question we had was, are you allowed to charge between two models of a squad to make contact with a different squad? I don't have the BGB with me to provide pages, but from what we could see, the restriction on being within 1" of an enemy model is removed while assaulting as long as you remain 1" away from all enemy models that you are not engaged with at the end of moving assaulters.

So are you allowed to move through an enemy unit in order to assault another one in the rear, as long as there is enough room to move between the enemy's bases?

I agree that by RAW it appears you can.
You could not move the triangles to the position of 'X' in the movement phase because you would come wtihin 1" of the 'O', but the assault rules say you can move within 1" of an enemy unit.
Whether this means any enemy unit though is another matter.

time wizard wrote:Whether this means any enemy unit though is another matter.

As it specifies not being in base contact with enemy units you're not assaulting, it's a pretty safe bet that we can at least move within an inch of them.

True, however, in this case, I feel it would be more tactically sound for the triangles to multi charge both units anyway.

It depends what the models are, what the mission is, where they are on the table, and what turn it is. As it's close to the end of turn 6, i think the triangles would be better off staying where they are, or using their assault phase jump to go in the opposite direction. They are, after all, winning on kill points and those x's have powerfists.

Re:Charging through a unit

I was going to disagree with the general sentiment of the argument, then I read the "Moving Assaulting Models" section on pg. 34. It removes the 1" restriction on movement. It does add that the bases of non-assaulted units cannot be touched.

Re:Charging through a unit

Happened in a game of mine this evening, 2 v 2 players, tau n orc vs tau n orc (don't ask, just say that two of the players are sick of fighting each other, and wanna team up vs others) and the tau player placed 4 gun drones he had disengaged from his piranha in order to "stop" the Orc players nobs from eating said piranha

after finding the Rule in assualt that removes the 1"requirement, the orc player merrily ate said fishie like skimmers and as Gwar put it, (also the circles) i.e the gun drones.

So yeah, Can totally do it Via RAW

Re:Charging through a unit

Well, what happened is that the Triangle's did double charge, (and there were a lot more Triangles at the time) and the O's and X's rolled extremely well, and virtually wiped out the Triangles before they could do anything. Grey Knights just can't stand up to Chaos apparently...

Thanks for the confirmation guys.
