So alot of people seem to prefer Hammerers with a lord. But if you give Ironbreakers a Rune of Courage and Rune of Determination aren't they almost as unbreakable as the Hammerers?

Ironbreakers question

olympia wrote:So alot of people seem to prefer Hammerers with a lord. But if you give Ironbreakers a Rune of Courage and Rune of Determination aren't they almost as unbreakable as the Hammerers?

Well, remember that the rune of determination is one use only. And you do get free rune of courage-effect with the lord in hammerers (if for whatever reason you'd want to use a dwarf lord instead of anvil).

Biggest difference is the stubborn though. Ironbreakers with aforementioned runes do hold up pretty reliably vs most stuff at that round when you pop up the RoD but after that... Hammerers on the other hand continue to benefit from the stubborn ld9 break tests all the time. This is amplified if the dwarf "anvil"unit happens to lose by a large margin. The hammerers still have their ld9 break test but rolling lower than 2 or 3 for example with the breakers isn't that easy even with the RoD.

Ironbreakers question

i loved ironbreakers more from the get go. 2+ save is great. but i later saw the light with hammerers, and the real advantage is the stubborn.

the GW's on the hammerers are an illusion, your rarely to never use them, but when you do its all good.

Re:Ironbreakers question

Well Hammerers are certainly a difficult unit to move, and when combined with a lord are immune to fear and terror for free. I personally let my Ironbreakers either escort a rune priest, or just block a flank. To make the Ironbreaker's as good as the Hammerers for staying put regardless of the odds, you need to make your Dwarf Lord have the Crown of Kingship, which costs 100 pts. Those 100pts could be better spent on making the Lord better at smacking people around, or staying alive.
