It also works best with a water kicker.
I keep a small tube for the parts that refuse stick
It can work on everything whether you want it to or not.

Play with a few sprues first.

Yeah I've used it and very much dislike it for the reasons you've stated - I've also found that zapagap is better at bonding plastic to plastic. Get a small drill bit and something to use for rod. Either paper clip or really thin finishing nails is what I use. Clip them to size, drill the appropriate holes, insert the pins and glue away. It will hold WAY better then just glue alone. Oh no you were clear, I was just also pointing out that gorilla is total crap for plastic on plastic... but even with metal it spreads too much, makes a mess and stays kind of rubbery.

I totally agree that pinning (and zapagap) is the way to go though.
