Blue's a really easy colour to work with, and smurfs themselves are really simple models. It's hard to screw up such a simple colour combination as blue and gold. 2. cover all parts you want blue with foundation blue

3. cover about 75% of the model with ultramarine blue. The 75% parts are the parts most hit by an over head light

4. slop on blue wash, glob it in deep areas.

5. gold on shoulders and aquilla, yellow wash them

6. bolt gun... I put the bolt gun on last. 3-1 bolt gun and chaos black for the gun, and slop on black wash, then glue the gun on the marine.

7. red eyes, with white dot on outside corner

What part of new to painting didnt you catch?
I think Fafnir pretty much has it for what you want.
