Dan Abnett to be screen writer for Ultramarines movie

Without sounding like a complete berk; I already found this out months ago. I've been keeping it secret for fear of exposing my friend. But to hell with it; I want to revel in the glory.
Having lots of nerdy friends in various industries, sometimes things get moved my way, and the script for Ultramarines was one of them.

Without giving too much away, let me tell you that this is not an Abnett piece of writing. I was reeeaaally disappointed with this. Whilst I will be buying it (and hoping there have been successful re-writes), my hopes are low for this.

Several reasons why I'm not looking forward to it. Here's a couple;

1) Tac marines getting superstitious about St. Elmo's Fire around a banner pole. Remember these are Ultras; I found that ridiculous.
2) Again, remember these are Ultras - A tac marine turning to a Sgt and saying "...And who put you in charge?"

There are tons of bits like this; loads of non-canon references to things, incorrect portrayals of the Emperor's Finest. I can imagine Abnett maybe penned the first draft, but my guess is every nerd and his dog has contributed to this since.

Don't get your hopes up guys. :(

Especially with the evidence that you're posting spoilers for it on a 40K forum? Not getting down on you or anything man, I just find it quite difficult to believe that their website says it is Dan Abnett (the site being official) and someone on a fan-forum saying they've seen the script? Plus although it isn't being made by GW themselves, it is part of GW's overall umbrella, and we all know how deeply tight-lipped GW have become of late. Why would they invite disaster by dropping said script into the greasy mitts of a 40K forum user?

And what glory is to be had by dashing peoples expectations??

I'm afraid I shall reserve judgement till I've seen the actual thing itself ^^

Dan Abnett to be screen writer for Ultramarines movie

When I heard this news I was confused. Here's a simple calculation as to why:

Ultramarines = Fail
Dan Abnett = Win

Fail + Win = ??

I'm hoping that Abnett is not the original writer but in fact the one who's been drafted in to sort it out. Last thing we want is another Commissar/Eldar love fest again.

I shan't get offended. It's not like some bigwig from GW handed it to me in a darkened alley. The chances are that Codex Pictures have over a dozen or so of these scripts, it's easy for one to go missing for a week or so. TBH I'm pretty stoked that I've seen it. But hey, I can't force you to believe me, so scepticize away dude

I read a script called Warhammer 40'000: The Movie; Written by Dan Abnett"
Whether or not it's the same plot as Ultramarines I don't know, but I was told at the time (only a few months back) that it was in production.

I'm fairly certain I've read it, time will tell if those fateful scenes will be in the movie. TBH for all our sakes I hope they aren't; I don't mind taking an inch of the e-peen for the sacrifice!
Just for posterity, it's not through hobby buddies that I got this, but rather film-related buddies. I've not been into the hobby for long, and I wasn't that interested in the script when I saw it. I do have a couple of mates in the film biz though, so sometimes things trickle down to me. Normally just gakky photos of Robbie Coltranes head in Harry Potter...
