I was not blasting people for owning guns, I was blasting them for talking about it so much on random threads. This is the attidude that many dakkers seem to have toward guns.

@JEB, I have some guns in a gun safe [complying with Victorian gun safety, which seems to go far beyond most of what America requires for gun safety] and have gone hunting from rabbits to bores and larger animals. I will agree that it has some fun attached to it, but I have discontinued hunting for a number of reasons. I dont have the urge to go out hunting or even have guns. I understand the culture difference but I must say that your 2nd Amendment is really wearing thin, and survivalist groups and self defence claims are unjustified.

I agree there is a place for guns in a social aspect, but there has to be a line drawn and I feel that is Americas down fall.

Of course you do, those stories make good news and better stories. I am sure the news doesn't report how for every idiot who owns a gun there are hundreds of safe, intelligent gun owners. Yes, I did see Bowling for Columbine. While I thought it was mildly entertaining, I wasn't overly impressed. I think it is overrated.

When you refer to anti-right activists, are you referring to people which wish to change the constitution to fix the loop hole [no offence, but the 2nd Amendment seems to be one of the biggest American legal loop holes] of the 2nd Amendment?

Also, I wish to add, that I feel that the NRA needs to be stripped of its political power, much like the KKK or Builders labours union[?][IIRC, this was an organisation in Australia that gain too much power over infrastructure and politics and was disbanded and outlawed].

I'm not about to loudly proclaim Michael Moore's godliness concering accuracy. Far from it, I realise that he's no saint. He's not up there with Ghandi or Mother Teresa. (Or even *shudder* Al Gore) But the guy does raise some valid points. And even the media prefers drama to accuracy, no?

Well grammatical errors aside, I have to take issue with your false ideas on the state of gun sales in the US. You do realize that you have to be a federally licensed firearms dealer in order to open a gun store. And there are extremely stringent regulations that go along with said store. There are also background checks and cooling off periods that do vary by state. You don't simply walk into a store, buy a gun and walk out. True, but that doesn't validate forming an opinion on misinformation.

Moore does raise some valid points, but so will anyone who attacks a cultural preference. There are always different ways of behaving which will achieve different results. Whether or not those results are preferable depends entirely on what it is you value. Police is another subject, we are talking about the "average joe" owning a gun, there for when stated about preventing a shooting, the poster was referring to a civilian shooting another civilian to "prevent a shooting", not a trained police officer doing everything in his power to prevent the shooting before resorting to lethal force. A gun to not always the best answer to another gun.
