Warhammer Terrain: Sewers + Nurgle = Gross

So I found this a few days ago... it was a terrain piece I made a few years ago for some scenarios I wanted to make up where you could move across the board quickly through sewers! It was meant to be a corner piece for tables as you can see... It was also really easy to make! Materials: Hardboard, Insulation foam (the kind in a can that expands a bit), and a big pipe piece.

1. Cut the hardboar into the shape you want the sewer to be... as Ive said, mine was a corner piece.

2. Get your foam can and start spraying! Its odviously very easy to do a nurgle look and tends to make more sense for a sewer... it just looks gross as you imagine most sewers would!

3. When you get to the back part (the entrance to the sewers!) your going to want to build up a bit of foam then hold your pipe on top and start spraying all around it and ontop of it, even some inside it if you want!

4. Paint it up! (something I have failed to do a few years later)

WARNING! Dont spray this with any kind of spray paint or primer! Although I think that if you use an airbrush thats different! If you do, it will start to melt the foam and it will loose its sewery look (or possibly not... try it on a piece in the back! Maybe it will look even more gross!)

Hope this gave a bit of inspiration!

Would love to see this painted along with other terrain for a Nurgle-infected city. Some buildings with random bulbousy growths all over it, or just random piles of rot flowing out of holes in the walls would look great with this Hope you add some more Nurgle city terrain and make this a blog.

As far as spraying goes - if you can find Krylon H2O, it works great on foam and polystyrene. Being a water-based spray, it won't melt it.

As said allready, most sprays will simply melt it, so if you are going to use a spray, use a water based on it.

Failing that, hit it with a few coats of PVA (watered down or neat) 1st, this will protect it from melting. (however, you will need full coverage with the PVA as any missed parts will melt lol)

Nice start. I'd love to see it painted. Some green and brown ink-tinted water effects would add a nice dose of extra snazz. I like the incorporation of house rules and terrain pieces, too.

I'm honestly surprised I haven't seen more people using expanding foam insulation in terrain projects. Whether chaos, tyranid, or some other random xeno planet, you can get some really cool (frequently gross) and varied organic shapes with it. I've heard that with lubed-up waxed paper (give it a spray of PAM or the like, perhaps?) you can do a bit of molding while it's expanding and setting. Plus you can roughly carve with a rasp or course file. Could do some really cool mountains with that stuff over/around a frame, I bet.

I made some pretty natty tyranid terrain just recently.
I didn't have any problem with melting the foam with spraycans.
I used Black Wilko brand Black Satin Multi Surface Enamel for the most part but tested a couple of others incuding GW and they were all fine. ymmv.

Finished pics on pg 2.....
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/259451.page

haha, yeah I think Im actually going to do an entire set of terrain like this for 40k... Anyone got some ideas for other terrain I could do with this? Possibly get some of the GW craters and fill those at random...

EDIT: I didnt even look at your link till after I posted this Alex! Didnt mean to steal the crater idea ahah!
