Inquisitor and Retinue Project

Well this is my first Blog and I hope to keep it updated on a regular basis. The goal here is to create an Inquisitor and retinue. While this might not lead to a full army (or it might, with my tau army almost done, the witch hunter's line looks really neat and seems like fun), I will treat it as a modeling and more importantly a painting exercise. I have made up a list and bios for most of the retinue but have no idea of how make the Inquisitor. As such he will be the last person I will do. But in the meantime, I will be posting the various henchmen.

The overall look will be a radical type Inquisitor. No chaos, just Xenos, abhumans and witches. A ratling, an ogryn, a penitent witch, and kroot shaper will make it into the list. Guard vets, some underworlders (a ganger and a bounty hunter), an abrite, a death cult assassin, a tech priest, a Sister Hospitaller , some sages, servo skulls, and possibility a co-inquisitor or integrator, will round out the retinue.

Pictures will come tomorrow, I have some stuff done but for now here are bios. Once again, criticisms are welcome. Oh yes the Inquisitor will not be named Bob. Once I get working on him model wise I will come up with a good name. The shaper will come later, once I get an idea of how I want to do him.
Thanks for looking

Inquisitor and Retinue

Inquisitor Bob, Order Hereticus
Gear: Force Weapon, Needle Pistol, Carapace Armor, Frag and Krak Grenades, Metla Bombs, Refactor field and Stakes.
Psyker
Age: 26
Bio: Hailing from Benland, Inquisitor Bob is a newly appointed Inquisitor following the natural death of his Master, Inquisitor Lord Augustus Zhang. Being Zhang's Interrogator for four standard years, Bob was approaching his Trails to become a full Inquisitor. However with Zhang's death, he was allowed to take them early and he passed with flying colors. However, he is know to be somewhat of a radical. He is also know to be cynical and mocking of the Imperial Hierarchy and Nobility. Taking in his Benland roots, Bob is an expert tracker, scout, and a very good actor. These traits make him an expert at infiltrating the lower levels of society where heretics are found. A Psyker, Bob prefers to find live captives for the Black Ships as opposed to burning everything in sight. This often leads him into arguments with his other Hereticus fellows. His retinue is primary composed of those who served with him under Zhang, with a few new additions.

Techpriest Diederich Engel
Gear: Power Axe, Bolt Pistol, Power Armor, Servo Arm, Frag and Krak Grenades, Metla Bombs, Ascpect.
Age: 27
Bio: Hailing from Anvul, the Forge World that is the sister world to Benland, Diederich is a good friend of Bob and served under Zhang while in his early 20s. Having issues with seminary, the Magos decided to make him a normal Guard Tech Priest, happy to just be working on Machines, Diederich did not complain. Then one day, Zhang discovered him and his natural talent, Zhang took the tech priest in and made him is personal armorer and mechanic. He became quick friends with Bob after find they where from the same system. The only man with power armor in the group, Diederich is a skilled Tech Priest and very good with his power axe. He also Bob's main Mechanics contact.

Storm Trooper Sargent Trevor Bell of the Harakoni Warhawks
Gear: Power Sword, Hell Pistol, Carapace Armor, Frag and Krak Grenades.
Age: 30
Bio: Trevor Bell is a veteran of the Harakoni Warhawks and a veteran of severing Bob's former Master Zhang. When Hao died, Bob gave Bell the option of retiring from the “business”. Bell how served Zhang for 10 years decided to keep going and continue to serve under Bob. A sword master, Bell uses a power sword given to him by Zhang after his first year of service. A man who is know for his sense of humor, he is one of the military connections that Bob has and uses.

Private Sophia Troy, 303rd Amazons of Artemis.
Gear: Las carbine, Fighting Knife, Flack Vest, Camoline Cape, Frag and Krak Grenades and Limiter.
Blank
Age: 23
Bio: Sophia is a new recruit to Bob's retinue. Her unquie skill makes her very special when compared to everyone else. She is a blank. While on his first assignment on Verda a hive world, the 303 was stationed there to train the local PDF. While looking for a suspected chaos cult that was never there, Bob ran into Sophia and was nearly knocked off his feet. Quickly realizing what she was, he approached her commander, showed his credentials and took her. Giving her a limiter so he can use his psychic powers, Sophia is his ace in the hole when it comes chaos cults with extremely powerful psykers. Keeping in line with her regiment's traditions, which is a light infantry regiment, Sophia only wears a flack vest and a Camoline Cape for protection. Also she refused to part from her trust las carbine and fighting knife. She is considered to be the best knife fighter in the entire retinue as well as one of the best trackers

Sage Corbin Wordsmith
Gear: Books, Plasma Pistol, Carapace Armor, Staff, Fighting Knife, Bionics.
Age: 55
Bio: A member of Zhang's old retinue, Corbin is a member of the Ecclesiarchy. Belonging to a order of librarians, Corbin served as an adviser to Zhang, finding things, doing research, and acting as a go between with the Ecclesiarchy. Now he does these things for Bob, who especially valves the last service. Often called a radical by the Puritan forces, due to his free thinking values and ways, Corbin acts a useful tool to get information when needed from the church. Also Corbin is on good terms with most of the Sisters of Battle Orders and can be his ambassador with the Sisters. While not a warrior, the old man has Bionic implants and is very strong and as enhanced memory and sight. He a good shot with his plasma pistol, but not very good at close combat.

Serenity, Death Cult Assassin
Gear: Power Sword, Flack Armor, Hand Weapon
Age: 24
Bio: A gift to Bob for becoming an Inquisitor by the Ecclesiarchy, her job is two fold. First is to act as an assassin for Bob. Second is to watch him and if necessary kill him if he wanders into heresy. When finding out that she could not read, Bob ordered Corbin to educate her. Proving to be an adept student, Serenity has quickly become a vital part of the retinue. Beside her skills with the blade, she is also an excellent dancer, intruder, and observer.

Jio Hun Lee, Crusader Bodyguard
Gear: Power Sword, Storm Shield, Carapace Armor, Bionics
Age 25
Bio: Lee is a Crusader Bodyguard who formerly served Zhang. As with Bell, he stayed with Bob when he became an Inquisitor. An expert sword's man Lee makes it his personal duty to protect Bob from all threats. This can get in way of Bob's undercover investigations, but is welcome when it is time for battle. Like Corbin, Lee has several bionic upgrades to his body, providing him extra strength and durability.

Sister Xiaoming Zhang, Order of the Eternal Candle, Order Hospitaller
Gear: Carapace Suit Armor, Medic Kit, Hand Saw, Fighting Knife
Age: 26
Bio: A member of the Order of the Eternal Candle, Order Hospitaller, Xiaoming is a skilled surgeon and medic. She had only served under Zhang for a year before he died. Xiaoming was Zhang's niece and took his death pretty hard. However with help of the entire retinue she is recovering from her sorrow. As the medic she often has her hands full. Quickly becoming an expert at spotting mutations she is another valuable contact with the church and Sisters of Battle. Also as medic she is useful for getting underworld contacts via aid work.

Michale Bry-Davis, Bounty Hunter
Gear: Two Las pistols, Power sword, Flack Armor, Knife, Flash Bang Grenades, Metla Bombs, Stun Cuffs
Age: 29
Bio: Michale is a Bounty Hunter and a major underworld contact. A skill dualist, Michale is a very flashy person but gets the job done. He is also very smart and an expert detective. He prefers his power sword for close encounters and always has a pair of stun cuffs and flash bangs with him. Bob finds him to be very valuable in the hive cities where he also has many Abrities contacts and connections.

Keelin, House Gang Escher
Gear: Las Carbine, Knife, Flack Armor, Frag and Krak Grenades
Age: 26
Bio: Bob's other primary underworld contact, Keelin was a former member of Necromunda's House Gang Escher. Zhang recruited her at a young age from the hives primarily on a whim. As a former gang member she is a good fighter, but also very intelligent, being Corbin's other student. She is very useful in figuring out the gang situations and finding reliable sources of information. Despite her upbringing in the under hives, she took well to her new situation and became a very dependable member of the retinue.

Seamus McNabb, Ratling, former 909th Givral Foot Infantry
Gear: Sniper rifle, Las Pistol, Flack Armor, Knife, Camo Cape
Age: 56
Bio: A sniper of great skill McNabb became apart of Zhang's retinue by accident. While looking for some food while out in the field, he discovered Zhang and the retinue going over a house belonging to a chaos cult. Lee and Keelin quickly grabbed him and he was given a very stark choice. Die now or become a member of the retinue. Choosing the later, Seamus has proved useful as a sniper, observer, tracker and go man for dealing with mutants and abnormals. While not the bravest member of the retinue, Mcnabb is not afraid to help out and do the right thing. Plus with his keen eyesight, many a traitor and heretic has meet their end by his sniper rifle.

Arbites Wolfbane, Adeptus Arbites
Gear: Custom Bolter, Frag Grenades, Flash Bangs, Carapace Armor, Bionics, and Knife
Age: 52
Bio: Wolfbane is the Bob's primary Arbites contact. He is also the oldestt serving retinue member, joining Zhang at a the young age of 20. A tough cop, he has no sense of humor and has little patience for Bells and Michale's jokes and pranks. Well versed on many system's cultures and well connected he is often the first point of contact with planetary officials when Bob is ready talk to local governments or the Arbites.

Bridget Sparrowhawk
Gear: Force Weapon, Two Laspistols, Flack Armor
Penitent Witch
Age: 23
Bio: Bridget is a Beta Class psyker. Taken by the black ships when she was “rescued” from Tnzeench cult, she put on the Black Ships at the age of 5. This allowed her to be raised by Adeptus Astra Telepathic. However due to the nature of her discovery, she was always suspected to be corrupted. Bridget had lost her sight when she was two but due her psychic talents, this was never a problem. Physical gifted an expert swordswoman, and crack shot with her las pistols, Bridget is a very dangerous opponent, even before she starts her psychic attacks. Favoring bolts of lighting and a skilled in Pyrokinesis, Bridget is a more powerful psyker than Bob. She is also the best card player and a good actor. She joined the retinue when Zhang was at the Adeptus Astra Telepathic looking for a psyker. Bob saw her and spoke up for her. When asked why her, Bob responded “its hard being a psyker, this could have been me when I was young.” Zhang decided that Bob had a point and took her.

Rocky, Orgyn
Gear: Ripper Gun, Frag Gerandes, Flack Armor
Age: 40 (Young for a Orgyn)
Bio: Another abhuman in Bob's retinue, Rocky joined after his unit was killed after fighting chaos renegades near the Cadian Gate. Bob recruited him for several reasons. First for his strength and size in fights, second he can be useful in undercover operations as a bodyguard, and for his loyalty. He relates very well to Sophia, McNabb and Bell as they are all ex guard. He does not care to much for Corbin because he feels that the librarian is uppity with him. Corbin meanwhile does not care to dumb brute.

Exciting! I love Inquisitors. It's a far future project for me (gotta get my current army up to truly playable quality first) but I've been dreaming of putting together an Inquisitor retinue since I read the WH codex. I think modeling the retinue will give be a great opportunity to make use of all the obscure little off-brand fantasy and sci-fi figures my flgs carries.

I hope you don't me lurking here to see what you come up with!

Indeed this seems like an awesome project. If nothing else, you'll have a great gang to use in skirmish games with tons of character. I love that you gave them all names and a little backstory.

-CC

You say he's considered a radical with his free thinking values and ways, and yet he's also on great terms with the sisters of battle? This seems to conflict as I see the sisters as fairly puritan... though maybe I'm wrong on that. It also seems like it should impair his ability to act as a go-between with the Ecclesiarchy.

Re:Inquisitor and Retinue Project

For Corbin, the idea is that while the Inquisitor is considered to be a radical in that he is free thinker, he does not use chaos itself as a weapon. So he is not evil, just odd and not a puritan. I might rewrite Corbin a bit. But he is used when the Inquisitor needs some information from the church more than anything else. The sisters are not used by all that much and when they are, the Inquisitor s is pragmatic about the situation and does not try to anger the sisters for the sake of the mission. Plus Zhang was on very good terms with the sisters and this Inquisitor uses that credit when talks to them. I know I need to read up on my Inquisition fluff, but I think there is room for an Inquisitor who pragmatic about life and is not totally puritan or radical.

Re:Inquisitor and Retinue Project (update Dec 4)

Hey ya'll

Well I repainted Sophia after trying to get rid of the mold lines. After I got done painting it, I saw some more, but the model is a lot better, so I am happy. In the new paint scheme, I tried going for a different camo pattern. I went for the colors of the Army's current digital uniforms. While the cape still has lines on it, her tank top and pants have a coat of space wolves grey with drybushed catachan green and kommando khaki. I think it looks really nice, but I think the pictures did not a very good job showing it. I will try tommorw with some natural light.

Sophia

I also painted Bridget. I am kind disappointed how her sleeves blend in with her hair. I was going for red hair, but I might have gone a bit overboard. If I do not like I will strip the paint and try again. Otherwise I am very happy with the figure. It was just a pain in the but to paint all the hair.

So now I have Corbin, Wolfbane, Sophia, McNabb, Bridget, and Engel done. So I am still left with a few people. Hopefully this next week I should get a couple more figures and be able to paint them.

Here are some group shots

Comments, criticisms, and suggestions are welcome.
Inquisitor and Retinue Project

There is a clear improvement in your painting skill in these two models. As far as criticism goes, you could work more on Sophia's eyes. This is one of the hardest parts of a model to paint so keep practicing. For Bridget's hair, you could try adding a wash, perhaps Gryphonne Sepia or Ogryn Flesh. If you only do one or two layers, it should stay fairly red, but it will add shading and help distinguish hair from sleeve and blindfold.

-CC

Two more people now. First is Sister Xiaoming Zhang. This is the medic from the Witch Hunter Inqusitor box. I am also in the process of basing my tau army, so this might take me a while. I got 24 firewarriors and 8 pathfinders done today.
Hello,

Well its been a while and I have some more minis to put up. I found some more tainth models and painted them up in the same way as Sophia. I plan on buying the rest of gaunt's ghosts and making a squad of sorts.

Next I painted two more wyrd minis. For my purposes, one is a ganger and one is a bounty hunter.

I also painted two random metal cadian guys, a lt with a powerfist and a sniper.

Here are the pictures
Molotov here is your comparison picture

The tanith models

The camo pattern is sort of based off the US army digital pattern. While I did not do actual digital patterns, I just went of the colors. Over all I am very happy with them and can not wait to get the ghost box.

the cadians

The wyrd minis

Bounty hunter

Ganger

I do have a question, what do ya'll think is a good way to paint the Vostroyan models? I have some and will want to paint them up, but I am not sure how to go about painting them.

Next on the list finishing a unit of ratlings and hopefully sealing my based tau army.

thanks for looking.

Re:Inquisitor and Retinue Project

Time for another up date. I have a lot of pictures so bear with me. I redid the ratlings and painted up the entire unit up ( I really love the new models. They scream of character to me.) I also painted two death cult assassins, the inquisitor lord from the box set, a some last chancers that I got in a trade (some escher models came with the trade, and hopefully next week, guants ghosts will be coming in as will the new harker model. For the chancers, I am using warrior woman (which is a nice model I think), brains (who needs to be painted still), knife man, safe cracker (how looks awesome), scrounger, sniper, and the boss fellow himself Schaeffer. I do not care to much for animal, rocket girl, ox, driver, and good guy. So once I get some more stuff I will post them and some other figures for trade.

But here are some pictures,

Schaeffer (the eyes have been fixed)

Safe cracker

Scrounger

Sniper

Knife Man

Warrior Woman

Inquisitor Lord

Death Cut Assassins

Ratling Snipers (new color scheme)

Well that was a lot, I hope ya'll enjoy them.
