BT modeling questions

Started a BT army not too long ago after wanting some difference in modeling/play style. I got a tactical squad, and the BT upgrade pack. After putting the minis together, I realized that having 8 chain swords just looks awkward. I was wondering if anyone knew where to get some plain swords that would be appropriately sized, and wouldn't be confused with power weapons. I'm not afraid to do a bit of surgery on the hands and whatnot, as I have quite a bit of experience with that.

Power weapon or not should be a painting effect.

Maybe paint those standard CCW just as rusty piece of metal and put the "lightnings" only on power-weapons?

IIRC, space marine sized plastic swords come for Dark angels ( bastard-sword style ) or captains ( gladius style ).
There was a sabre for BA and a scimitar for WS too. Were metal, could be unavailable now.

Another option would be to keep every power-weapon different from your basic CCW ( swords ),
use axes and maces and hammers instead.

BT modeling questions

Doesn;t the tactical squad sprue come with a few large knives? If memory serves, these are all much smaller than what one would usually use for a power weapon.

As suggested, painting is a good way to distinguish. Make power weapon really ornate, (Gold is a good color) and make regular CCWs plainer. (Use Boltgun Metal)
