MeanGreenStompa wrote:I use avast instead of AVG, I find it's far more aggressive.

In what way may I ask, I currently use AVG but am always on the look out for something better as I already have four working on my PC that look after all quarters so-to-speak (and no it doesn't greatly affect performancec of the PC)

My Mcafee has packed in for some reason and I'm getting that fixed tonight hopefully if i get time, and my other two haven't given me any alerts recently despite updates, so I'm questioning their ability for virus protect.

For the OP, my guess would be a virus on your own system, had it myself a while ago with a few websites and a few scans managed to clear it easily.

Alfred McMango wrote:buy a new computer -.- if you gots money you can get a good one if not than scan fully properly without interrupting the scan

Just .. .. BUY .. .. a new computer? Most people don't have £300 to £500 to throw on a new computer just like that, just because of a simple Virus, Virus scanning is a far cheaper and better method regardless of your finances. Unless a PC is beyond repair then just buying a new one isn't the way forward and it would be cheaper to get it sent to a repair shop in either case. Granted ICT is my profession, but I've cleared PC's of over to 2500 virus's Torjan's before, and you seriously wonder how one person can aquire so many

Thats the only times I'd recommend a new PC, when the cost of repair is too much or the PC in question is so old that it makes sense to upgrade.

Normally if I'm ever prompted to update some software I go directly to the website and update from there unless the software itself has its own update function. Whilst trying to find music video's I got prompted to update to Flash 9, I umm''ed and arr'ed and decided that I did indeed need it as my version was 8. I foolishly clicked on their link rather than going to flash's website and hey presto. Got myself a lovely virus that took me a week to clear. Just saying as a warning to others of ONE way you can get these beggars

Try Spybot Search and Destroy. It will get rid of malware shenanigans, and let you know when registries are changed, allowing you to pick and choose what does and doesn't get changed in your registries. kinda annoying, but not asa bad as Vista UAC.
