Another newcomer....I know

I realize there is tons of these here, but I am finishing up my Beastguard Army (as in getting the rest of the models and painting) and am interested in trying out fantasy in the near future.

I am a nut for Shootyness, I would love an army that could drop rows of models each turn, without getting into assault, and I like Mech-stuff in Fantasy, this is why I am drawn to Empire. By the looks of it, they have cannons, Hell-Blaster Volley guns which are my favorite in looks, etc.

I was thinking of a primary base of Handgunners, following with the tech-feel of it, lots of handgunners, and then backed up by artillery, consisting of the stuff mentioned above, among other things.

Is fantasy similar to 40K? I've heard that it is in general not as balanced (the dreaded DOC). I like the thought of movement-trays that I see fantasy uses, makes moving alot easier compared to 40k.

Thanks in advance.

Re:Another newcomer....I know

The only question I saw was "Is fantasy similar to 40k?"

I can't really comment since I haven't played a game of 40k yet. What I have heard, is that fantasy is a little more tactical. You really need to pay attention to your movement phase and setup. Fantasy is not as forgiving when you make a mistake.

Movement trays are great. Empire can be very shooty along with anything else. They are probably the most versatile army out there. Dwarfs are very shooty too.

You seem to already have a plan, so I am not sure what you want.

Shooting in WFB is rather different than in 40K. Most of the heavy guns you mention have a chance to miss-fire. An army with 3-4 cannon can look forward to at least 1 miss fire every other turn. Might be worth playing in small amounts to see if shooting in WFB is still your thing.
