Question on Blending or glazing blues....

Working on taking my painting to the next level and blending and or "glazing" (super thinned out layers of paint... mostly water) and when working with blues without fail they always end up looking chalky. I have tired 2 brush blending, 1 brush (plus a wet one), glazes, and the last couple layers just look terrible… Any suggestions?

what types of paint are you using? I had a similar issue with Vallejo blues. Not sure about a solution, but you might want to try GW or another vendor?

Also, what are you using to thin? Straight water, dirty water or something with additives in it?

Make sure you add a tad of the next colour to all your layers.

For example:
regal blue basecoat
regal blue+ enchanted blue highlight
regal blue + enchanted blue + a tad of ice blue
enchanted + ice blue
enchated +ice blue + white
ice blue + white
if necessary, wash with regal blue/asurmen blue

Re:Question on Blending or glazing blues....

I can't say I've had any problems doing blends of GW blues, but they do seem to require a slightly less watery consistency of paint to work well. Less 'coloured water' and more 'really really thin paint'. I also haven't gone up any brighter than enchanted blue, so ice blue might be the culprit.
