I was thinking of going to the "local" GW store 50 miles away to try and get a game.

My only worry is im 26 and think it might be uncomfortable with all the kids etc.

does anyone have any tipa experiance with this?

Plus even if you can only make it down on a day that isn't Veterans or something, they might see about recruiting you an opponent. No sales pushes, no one touches others models without asking and if they do pick up a model and look at it it's usually by the base. The armies are generally painted alright, there may be the odd undercoat only, but that's only the new ones. Terrain is always good and it's never hard to find a pick up game.

my local store has no night time events, is shut tues/wed now and there in a new smaller shop which has TWO tables!

Guess I wont be playing there, the next nearest, just under 90 miles away has a second gaming room, has sevral late nights and the local club plays there.

Im a long standing pen and paper rpg guy so know most of that crowd in the local area and yet know noone who plays 40k or FoW :(

It was FULL of kids yesterday! It IS kind of annoying - the tabletop standard of most of the models on show was dire, plus you have kids whose entire army they've brought to play with consists of 1 Bloodthirster, 1 Deamon Prince and 1 Soul Grinder! My local branch is pretty good though - they pair up the older players together.

I reckon your best bet is to try and persuade some of your RPG mates to give 40K a go - do you have more than one army? If so, paint up 2 armies and a load of terrain, then set up a battle for you and few mates over some beers.
