trygon related questions

I have been thinking about how to best use my trygon. Im not that big fan of mawlocks becouse they can´t transport troops, althogh they can inflict a bit of damage if used right, but i find that Doom of Malantai popping out of a trygon tunnel do even more damage.

Still, i got some questions:

First, is it any good upgrading prime? synapse is great but trygons tend to die so fast its really not making a differene. And that leads me to my second point: How about upgrading regenerate or even using two, unupgraded trygons insted? In game of 1700p or so its very hard to take em both down, and if you upgrade regenerate, if they survive, they have a great chance of healing one or two wounds and that can be really useful. Two could be even more useful becouse of several chances of entering right in the thick of the enemy with more squads, and thats my primary use of my only trygon (so far )

These things all cost a fair amount of points though, and i don´t know what´s better. I would really like your opinion

Trygon Prime I would wager is essential. Synpase is one thing, but getting 6 additional shots each turn is well worth considering, especially if your opponent happens to have a squadron of Light Vehicles kicking about, as he can pop up and hump them in a single turn, which is always useful!

For the points, it's pretty ace. Plus, if you intend on utilising his Tunnels for extra troops, you can guarantee they'll pop up in Synaptic Range.

I think ill use that in the future, when i acually have a spod

Trygon Prime I would wager is essential.
trygon related questions

If your trygon dies on the turn he arrives, probably because it's the only threat close to your opponent's line.

On to a positive point, it diverted fire from your main line, which will eat all those pesky humans/orks/elfes on the following turn.

If not, then you might want to consider
- another trygon
- spores
in order to drop multiple threats at once in your opponent's face; hence a few are likely to survive to eat them next turn.

regarding the upgrades, i used basic trygons; I tend to find the other ones too expensives (prime + regen).

Re:trygon related questions

I'd say the upgrade to prime is nice not but not necessary, since you're increasing his cost by 20% in order to double his shooting, which isn't really his main feature. Trygons are fleet, and so there is reason to spend your shooting phase running into assault, which is where the trygon really shines with its 6 attacks, WS 5, and rerolling all to hit rolls in assault. Popping up a trygon behind your opponent's tanks and hitting their rear arc is really nice though, especially since you can then assault the occupants if you're close enough.
Personally I really like double trygons with regen for an up-close double threat. They'll probably take some wounds the first turn they come on as long as you don't drop them right in front of a bunch of plasma squads but then being able to fleet into assault with units that can't effectively hurt it to regen wounds is really effective.
