Necron Monolith

A bit of a departure for me and very much an experiment. I didn't really want a dark green/black Monolith and found a really nice stone and blue scheme on coolminiornot. I'm going with a stone pattern on the sides and green for the trim. So far, it's coming along nicely. The model was primed black and then with Rustoleum Camo Khaki. I did my sponging last night with Bleached Bone, Polished Bone (Reaper), and some white, in poor light, so I wasn't sure how it was turning out. Looked better in the day time. Currently, the edges only has a basic Orkhide Shade basecoat, which will be drybrushed/edges with Dark Angel green on the edges. Guns will be done in gunmetal.

I would add something to the green. Right now, the thing is just boring although painted very nicely. I am still racking mybrain to think of something to add and I will post when it comes to me. However what seems best right now would be to paint on glyphs.

Refreshing to see a change in necrons bieng painted something other than pure metal with black structures.

I actually really like the stone look. To me I get the feeling they have lain dormat underneath some sort of grecian style city, with the white marble/stone look to it.

Sounds like your going to add to the green so I wont comment on that. But I do like it.

As I said refreshing to see necrons that arent just boltgun metal

~Toxic

I'm trying to decide if I want to keep the Orkhide Shade as the base and drybrush the edges Dark Angel Green or top coat it with Dark Angel Green. I was thinking of a granite pattern, but I think that might look too busy next to the stone pattern. I don't know, maybe it wouldn't.

I intented to weather the bottom with a good application of dust.

Can you go with a slimey green look? I'm all about the ancient ruins at the moment, you could make it looks like it's been sitting in a swamp to great effect IMO. Mossy growth, foliage hanging off, slime...the stone does look really good. I agree the granite will probably make it too busy looking...whatever you do with it needs to draw the user's eye to the white stone, and not detract from it for sure.

I'm not sure how to do it, but the green could also have something done to it to make it look 'high tech'. Tau like markings or some sort of weird metal look to give the idea of the Necrontyr's infinite understanding of technology married to some ancient stone temple kind of thing.

So what are you doing for a crystal? If you say the green plastic thing that came with the kit I'm only coming back to point and laugh.

Yes, it does have an ancient ruin in a jungle look with the stone color. Reminds me of the one battle in a White Dwarf that pitted Catachans against crons in a big city of ruins.

Necron Monolith

Monolith completed. I'm going to replace the crystal with something from the art store, just not sure what. For an experiment, I think it turned out pretty well. Got to try out sponging, stippling, some antiquing waxes, and weathering. Hope you like the results. That just leaves the Devilfish and I'll be done with my February goals.

Necron Monolith

A quick paint and color notes:

Primer: Flat Black then Rustoleum Camo Khaki
Sponged on Bleached Bone (GW), Polish Bone (Reaper) then straight White (GW)
The corner pieces were basecoated Orkhide Shade (GW Foundation) then Dark Angel Green (GW). The edging is done with Iosan Green (P3)/Snot Green (GW)

Assembly notes. If I had to do this again from scratch, I would basecoat the pieces at least with the Khaki before assembly, spend more time filling gaps, and then hitting it with another layer of Camo Khaki.

The weathering powders came Adventures in Miniature (http://aimprodx.com/)
