Look at the SIZE of that thing!?

(here's the rules, if you can call them that... as long as it's eventually huge, and gigantic, and battletastic, or in some way leads in that direction, and so on, tack it on.... just remember to leave a trail off for the next guy to pick up, and don't just kill off people unless they're yours, or its awesomely epic as you do so, in which case any character in the story is fair game, cool?)

ONCE UPON A GALAXY:

Jordack fingered his headset dial to 'ultra-low' as he peered at the frequency meter of the oncoming asteroid. Nah, just the usual interplanetary traffic, nothing to worry about. There were only 6 days before it would collide with Aegis VII defense satellite and careen off in the direction of the nearby star system, the somewhat unfortunately named 'Soup' system. Planetary defenses should knock it out of trajectory long before then. Just another hour and he could clock out. Another lazy day listening to sonaradar sounds.

Jordack heard a low pulse thrum through his cyber-ears, wondering what that particular 'boom' noise in the background could be. He gestured his coffeebot to go and fetch him some stim. He heard it again, checked his meters. Difficult to tell if it was a boom or more of a thud noise, and an occasional bloop appeared on the monitors too, somewhat close to the blips he also heard earlier, but much more distant. He heard a buzzing sound in his ear and all of a sudden his head exploded into a ghastly stump of flesh, brain, and bone, as the implanted cortex bomb detonated. His body lay stumped in a grisly fashion over the control consol, sharing a pose with fetuses and burn victims alike as the coffeebot returned from its errand. On the screen, his last signal he intercepted, now read and processed... slowly... by the humble appliance droid, was a woman's voice, "Oh My God!it's coming, take all precautions before it's too lat..." a message repeating over and over like a bad old dos program that ends with "goto 1". The robot wondered......

THOSE WEREN'T BLIPS THEY'RE BLOOPS!

sounded over the intercom across the mile long starbase and suddenly, the place was a flurry of activity as little people with insignificant lives scurried around trying to figure out something to do about the fact that it was all going to end. Some of them grabbing pliers or spanners or fire-extinguishers, others arming themselves. It was humanity at its finest.

Then IT opened up. The hyper-space jump gate looked as big as the ugliest hooker's nether realms but multiplied on a planet scale... and out of it came the meatball. There was really no other way to describe it, it was the size of a small moon, and seriously, actually made of meat of some kind, some of it still moving... perhaps this was an unfortunately badly timed 'food relief' type program, Bugba didn't know... all he knew is that this huge clump of meat was heading right at his starbase, and there was an escape pod nearby if he could fight through the other hoomaans scurrying to get there.

"Mmmm, yummy!" thought the 10,000 mile long Tyranid Norn mother ship as it spotted the meatball on its sensors. "That will do for a nice snack!"

The ship's warp engines fired up for a short range jump...

too late. The space meatball is hitting the starbase. NOOOoooooo.... Fire Hydrants erupt and people die everywhere.... but the escape pods still functioning as it rocks ridiculously in zero-G, the helmsman shuts the door and hits the "GO" button. As he casts away past the biggest babecue-waiting-to-happen in the galaxy, flowing past giant chunks of meat and space-station, he wonders if anyone else made it off the ship... or where he will land...

The jolt from the impact caused Bugba to smack his head on the inside of the escape pod. After rubbing his head, he looked out of the pod. He could see nothing, his view was obscured by dense fog. He breathed air. Good, there was oxygen. The fog was thick and green and made his skin tingle slightly, he didn't like it, but it was better than the giant meatball he'd left.

Cautiously Bugba took a step out of the pod. His foot met... nothing. He plunged downwards. Fortunatley the drop wasn't too steep, and he seemed uninjured, he must have landed on an outcrop of some sort. As he stood up he felt a twinge of pain in his right foot: he'd twisted his ankle. Mumbling curses, Bugba reached for the pistol at his waist. He checked it, then loaded it with six 'Torpedo Bullets', bullets made from a special armour percing metal found on his homeworld.

He stood up and took a step forward. His injured right foot met uneven ground and he fell to the floor, letting out a quick scream of pain. After a minute, Bugba gritted his teeth and stood up. That was when he felt the warm, moist breath on the back of his neck....

Look at the SIZE of that thing!?

The predebeast was quick. Far quicker than Bugba. He knew in an instant that he was about to be mauled by a large carnivorous monster, but then it stopped, sniffed a bit, and licked his forehead. The helmsman fingered his torpedo launcher while turning over in his head the likeliness of it helping or not in his current circumstances. The predebeast answered the question for him, as it wandered away to the perimeter of his camp. It seemed to be staring at something distant on the horizon. As Bugba followed it out, he noticed the meteors, or maybe drop pods, unsure which off behind the looming mountain. Either way, he felt stuck here with this, well, thing... that evidently meant him no immediate harm, except that it reeked of rotten vegetation, probably caught in its nappy coat of fur. Bugba took inventory as a thousand stars fell in the distance...

Re:Look at the SIZE of that thing!?

Bugba stared at the falling stars, it was a beautiful sight. The predebeast snuggled close to him, it was wierd but strangely comforting. As he fondled its ear he decided to give it a name, he decided on Nigel. He reverted his thoughts back to the shooting stars, it was mezmerizing. A harsh clicking noise snapped him back into reality, it was Nigel. He seemed to be using his tongue to make the noice. Nigel strode up to a small outcrop near the camp and looked over towards the shooting stars. Bugba could've sworn he saw it's eyes 'zoom', like a camera to make out what the stars were.

Suddenly Nigel let out a high-pitched scream. Bugba covered his ears. Then Nigel turned and stared at him. Bugba felt a wave of static sweep through his body and for a moment his head spun. When it stopped he was seeing something different. Then it clicked. He was seeing what Nigle had just seen, Nigel must be telepathic! There he was walking up to the outcrop, looking over to the shooting stars. Then the view zoomed in.

Bugba's heart skipped a beat. The stars weren't stars tehy were repulsive pods that looked like meatballs, mycetic spores! Bugba, well Nigle, saw one pod pulse as something burst out. The beast was huge an muscular and a psychic aura seemed to surround it. It was a Hive Tyrant. Already waves of smaller Tyranids were being commanded onwards by the Hive Tyrant, in Bugba and Nigel's direction. The Hive Tyrant let out a huge, loud roar.

Bugba's vision went back to normal. Bugba and Nigel turned and started to run....

Look at the SIZE of that thing!?

Towards the large mountain, seeing as it was really the only discernable landmark to navigate towards. Nigel led the way like an agile master, leaping from rock to tree to rock to tree, whilst still pausing every few hundred paces to send a 'click' back to Bugba, who was having a hard time keeping up with the predebeast. Evidently the creature was not roaring at them. They could still hear it roaring however. Perhaps something else nearby had drawn more of its attention than the little human and his new companion. It's gigantic stomps shook the earth as it roamed around the remains of the escape pod camp. Bugba had just about made it to the top of a rise when he saw the sniper. It's rifle flashed through Nigel's eyes into his own. Big. kind of clunky. and draped in camoflague, the man stopped, dropped to one knee, and pointed the gigantic rifle at the unfortunate creature. Bugba shouted "wait!" and the man stood up surprised. He was huge. Obviously seven feet tall or more. His armor bore several strange signs that Bugba couldn't recognize, but they were definitely Imperial. His cloak sort of shimmerred as he moved, and his youthful face was wide with surprise at running into another hoomaan out here in the middle of the woods. Meanwhile, the stamping sound of trees being crushed underfoot became a slightly more distant stamping sound, as the monster lurched around in the opposite direction that Nigel had led him. It was hunting around for something. Spores continued to fill the night sky, the scout gestured to Bugba to get down, and took careful aim in the direction of the stamping noises...
