Disagreement about the Trygon's Movement

Okay, so me and a friend were having a somewhat friendly game the other day. His Trygon Deep Strikes in 13" from my gun line, and scores a direct hit. Come my turn, I fail to down it, so he gets to move it. He extends the tape measure to 12", and moves the Trygon 11" towards my warriors. At this point, I'm amazed something that big moves that fast.

So, I ask him, if it can really move that far each turn. He says yes, without explanation, and I ask for one. He says it's because it's like a giant Ravener.

...

At this point I'm very confused, as the unit type of Raveners are Beasts - yet Trygons are Monstrous Creatures that are fleet. I don't know if he got mixed up and thought he could move 12", where he really had to move 6" and then run D6" in order to assault me... I really just don't know.

I want to know this too as I do play Tyranids as well, just not all that often.

So, can Trygons move 12" in the Movement phase? Or are they limited to 6" and a D6" run?

They move as Infantry, as per the Monstrous Creature unit type. They can Run in the Shooting Phase. They have the same Assault Range as Infantry.

He is probably getting it confused with the Apocalypse/Imperial Armour 4 rules for Trygons, where they are Gargantuan Creatures and CAN move 12" in the movement phase and Assault as Beasts.

He needn't worry, it happened with the IG codex too when the Hydra Flak Cannon was put into the codex.
