Craftworld Valhalla - An Eldar Army WIP

Alrighty, so I figured I would start a blog to mark my progress on my Eldar army, some things are done, but a lot are only in the beggining stages of painting. Ill throw up pictures of what is done/almost done. as well as some of things definatly WIP lol.

It is a "themed" army, somewhat, based on norse mythology (obviously). My fun list (avatar and shenanigins) is defintaly more fluffy than my pure mech spam competitve build, but it is what it is lol.

My army is table top standard, I dont have the time (or really the skill) to paint any golden demon level stuff (or even advanced high level ), so I go for a good table top quality.

Avatar: Hes almost done, I started him and for some reason havent finished, the only thing left is the tabard, but havent got around to it. And he needs to properly based, but other than that hes done.

Eldrad/Farseer: Again I started him and hes 90% done. His helmet, sword, and base need to be done. the body is all done on him

Wraithlord 1: I started with a bright lance/EML build on this guy, and found it stunk, so i bought magnets and hes been magnetized to hold a bunch of things now. Currently Im using him as a scatter laser/shuriken cannon build. Anywho, only basecoat on this guy lol

Wraithlord 2: Same deal here.

Guardians: First thing I painted in this army. Ive tried I think 3 or 4 different painting techniques on these guys lol. So they all look different under close inspection. The first technique I was doing was black undercoat, and then layer on each highlight starting with the base color going around the black rpimer for shadows. This took FOREVER lol. If I wanted a awesome looking army, this technique definatly looked great, but I was spending way to long on one guy. Next I tried to speed that up by using washes, but I was still doing about 4 levels of highlights and taking way to long. I settled on a much faster method, and althogh defintly looks 10x worse than the other ones, its so much faster, and gives a nice table top quality finish. Ill show a close up of my "settled" painting technique.

Falcon: Almost done, need to do the weapons and underneath. This took a while, lots of layers and highlights.

Waveserpent (1 of 3): Trying something different on the waveserpent than I did on the falcon, which is attempting to wet blend. So ive wet blended the ice blue section, and the little prongs. Also some wet blending on the edge of some of the panels, which you can see goto white. Im still trying to figure out wet blending, so this was my first attempt at it. Its definatly way faster than layering, but also a lot trickier. It gives a nicer and smoother finish as well too, so it looks nicer up close. The red tips wont be red for long, thats just a base coat, theyre going to be orange to indicate fire dragons transport, the dire avengers will get ice blue tips.

Comments welcome. thanks for looking

Craftworld Valhalla - An Eldar Army WIP

thanks guys, im trying to perfect this wet blending. Ive been trying my hand at a wet pallette as well, ive always used a regular old pallete and just mixed from there and watered my paints down. Using the wet pallette seems to not like having paints watered down though, makes them very runny, so im experimenting there, not sure if im liking it actually (lol...). My paints never dry out, but its making my paints weird to handle, might go back to regular pallette and just water my paints down again.

I'm liking the paintjob. Highlights a wee bit shaky here and there, but in general, excellent. I'm finding the lolz a bit hard to stand.

updates:

got all my magents in, so ive been busy mangetizing all the bases and weapons. Heres all the bases magentized up:

And heres progress on the serpent. Ive redone the ice blue sections and the regal blue sections to make the blending smoother. I also cleaned up a bunch of things on it.
