Sculpting Mat

I have recently been attempting to heavily convert several of my miniatures to accommodate the new WHFB Skaven models (Hell pit Abomination for starters). Currently i have been using kneadatite epoxy putty (green stuff). But i was curious if anyone has other suggestions for another material i should try or should i simply be honing my ability?

Sculpting Mat

Ohh ... I was looking for a "Sculpting Mat" not "Sculpting Mat. (erial)" ;-)

"Green Stuff" seems to be an industry stantard that many professional sculptors prefer. I've also seen "Grey Stuff" that I'd like to try as I think my eyes would better see the shadows on that than on the green.

If you are just starting out, you could always use a less expensive putty but you do run the risk of developing bad habits trying to get that stuff to work for you versus the way Green Stuff does.

The cheaper putties (various grades of Milliput) are great for building up your large sculpts (Hell Pit Abomonation) without using excessive amounts of your Green Stuff ... save that for your last, detailed and visible layer of the build.

Sculpting Mat

I guess what i really need to do is experiment with how i sculpt the green stuff. I do agree with you in the uses of the lower grade putty. I have used miliput as a bulk agent to augment a Styrofoam body. Detailed effects such as scars, stitches, sores, and things of the like are what i am going to attempt next. Will Have to see how that works out.

Re:Sculpting Mat

Apoxie Sculpt is Great! it is about 13 bucks for a pound of the stuff and it dries hard. It is good for beefing out something, weapons, and big things. Buy this then buy a long roll of GS from an online source and mix the two and you will have a perfect sculpting medium. Holds detail, dries hard, not expensive.
