Anyone have experience with ForgeWorld's Arvus Lighter kit ?

Hi there,

I have one (currently in storage) and it is a reasonably decent enough model to build difficulty-wise.

As with all resin kits steeping it in hot water for several seconds at a time will help you when you have to straighten out the inevitable bits that don't align 100% correctly when cold. I had to a fair bit of dry fitting until I was happy with mine.

I found that I had to do a lot of careful trimming & shaving of the resin to ge the cockpit aligned into the fuselage, but it's just a case of trial & error. I recal quite a bit of resin flash on the hull sections as well now that I think about it.

The wings are a pain to stay on if you just use superglue but some carefull pinning might help out. Alternatively just add some .03mm plasticard strips to reenforce the wing / hull join when you attach it.

I like it as model in it's own right and I had fun painting it up. Game-wise it makes a nice objective, or it makes for a nice throwaway lander (crappy AV & no weapons) for a unit.

Great, thank you for the insight !!

I'd like to get a few to use as terrain (landing bay) and as a party transport (Dark Heresy RPG) more than for use in a 40K game. I think I'll order one and see if I can replicate it a few times in plasticard ... assuming I can muster up the attention span for a project like that.

Squirrel ?!!!!

Anyone have experience with ForgeWorld's Arvus Lighter kit ?

There's a couple of points to bear in mind with the Arvus. The centerline seam of fitting the two hull halves together is a toughie, especially if you want to heave the hatch operable. I chose not to, because the mating surfaces were not clean enough and it'd've been impossible to make the inside seam disappear, especially when painting was considered. Plus, the internal detail isn't that impressive.

My kit was built with five-minute epoxy and quite a bit of pins, the engines were pinned to the fuselage, the wings were pinned to the engines, the landing gear was pilled to the underside, etc. The fuselage halves needed a fair bit of filler (I used Mr. White Putty). I still haven't fitted the front glazing, though.

Thanks, Agamemnon2. I tend to pin everything I can to avoid any frustrating breakage in the future. I'll build and paint a model once ... after that, it's just not fun.

It sounds like even this smaller, simpler kit (compared to FW's Valkyrie) is still typical ForgeWorld with misaligned parts, gaps and significant clean-up required.

So who has plans for a plasticard one ??
