Well what are you planning to use it for? I really like having at least one in any list I make. I always put it in the pod though... the pod is very cheap on points, and if you give him a heavy flamer and put the deathwind launcher on the pod for good measure you've created a very nasty threat that you can drop in your opponent's backfield on turn one. This throws a wrench into his plans because you've created a threat that must be dealt with right the hell now before it wreaks havoc.

Re:Arming Drednoughts?

It always depends on its usage.

If you ever plan to take it to CC, always give it a HF. Those first bursts of fire before the assault can take out half the squad and you won't need to worry about as many rending hits/Power Fist (since you'll kill the rest of the squad)/extra hits.

If you want to keep it as a tank killer, I personally love running a TL Lascannon and a ML. It seems like a subpar choice at first, but for drop pod armies, this can be your tank killer when used right. This has also been humbled by the Double TL Autocannon dread as you're firing enough shots to take out AV12-.

As for a right arm loadout, it actually does depend on the army as much as the list. I stopped running MM dreads in my Space Wolves cause they all have at least two meltas, if not three with the Wolf Guard Combi. Those free Assault Cannons make great, ranged tank killers with rending and it is amazing when fired en masse.

I've never found a use for a Heavy Bolter or Heavy Flamer right arm simply because its an underwhelming choice. Why run those when you can run superior shooting for better results.

I've never used a Plasma Cannon though I have heard it can be effective. For me, this seems like a one-trick arm so I never really can stand taking it.

Definitely run with the standard Assault Cannon. Plasma Cannons are meh performers a good portion of the time and simply don't do what you hope. An Assault Cannon however, coupled with your Long Fangs with JUST Missile Launchers (since I know we all run this and you'd better too) will bring great Anti Mech and Infantry/Horde.

Also Luna, I've been meaning to tell you.
If the dreadnought has no Dreadnoght Close Combat Weapon arm, then his attacks don't count as power weapon attacks.
I have found in about 4 out of 5 games that a simple multi melta and ccw works great. Yes it's only one shot, but the times I miss I usually just charge int close combat. I give it a drop pod and put it where I need it.
