For 200 points you get a Terror causing "unit" that attracts war machine fire like a child attracts dirt. The attacks are pretty lame, but can work out to your advantage sometimes. I have a giant, but i rarely use it as I prefer to put a sorceror and a chariot on the field for the same points cost. The model is a lot of fun to put together though. It's always good to have a few options.

I think the Chaos Giant is a great monster to have in the army I mean if facing infantry it has all the basic attacks all Giants have but against big monsters and chariots you get Chomp which can heal the Giant (better then regeneration in my opinion) and the Chaos Giant in a WoC army can then be given marks which are either Frenzy, ASF, 6+ ward save (don't sniff a ward save of any type) or -1 BS and WS in close combat and -1 to hit so I think it is awesome

The main downside for me is how astoundingly easy giants are to kill. Naked T5 W6 just vanishes.

The main upside for me is that giants can beat anything. I was convinced to swap out my dragon ogres (which are good at surviving but not at killing anything) for a tizz giant (go go 6+ ward) when I read a story of a bloodthirster charging a giant, fluffing its attaks, then getting chomped by the giant, and box-carring its (in)stability roll to die. Amazing stuff, and I hope mine accomplishes anything remotely as awesome!

That said, I expect it'll die horribly most games. Possibly also fall on my characters and squish them good.

- Salvage

Mine always falls over when he loses combat, then fails his break test to automatically die.

And just gets swing with club vs. infantry, followed by a low number of hits.

Needless to say, I've had bad luck with my giant.

I have had good luck too, but what I really miss is the 5+ scaly skin save that chaos giants used to have. It's not war machines that scare me, it's units of lots of S3 shots that get lucky and put 4 wounds on him in one round of shooting. That 5+ saved him more than I can count back in the day.

Alas, it's gone. Giants are fun because they do unexpected things that the enemy can't ignore, and because it's always nice to auto-win against someone's deathstar.
I think most folks are evaluating them as a combat unit that operates on its own.

It would seem to me that a large part of what a giant brings to the table is being a relatively fast, rank-negating unit that can turn at the the end of its movement phase to face wherever it likes.

It can operate independently, but it would seem to be more valuable moving to support other units by combo-charging with them to negate enemy ranks.

Are chaos giants worth it?

The main advantages of Giants are:
1) They're fire magnets. You put down a Giant, you can usually expect at least one of the enemy's Cannons / Bolt Throwers / Wizards to be focusing on it that turn, if not several / all until it's dead.
2) If they can flank, they're pure evil. US6 meaning negate ranks, Terror, Ld10 Stubborn, all this combines to mean that the enemy oft is only ahead by 1 at the start of a fight, and pretty much any attack roll will beat the enemy.
3) They're fun. Sometimes they trip and fall repeatably until it's almost like they're belly-flopping forward. At other times, they'll pick the enemy's strongest regiment and eat their characters one by one over a period of turns.

slaneshy giant ftw... as mentioned even if he gets shot up and put down, that gives you an extra turn or 2 to close distance and unleash your knights/characters/warriors charge. if they ignore the giant and focus on your other stuff, the giant can REALLY duff some stuff up. plus the terror is a nice bonus
