Tau Pulse Carbine??

I know this is probably a dead horse subject on Tau Pulse Carbine, but i was playing a game vs. another tau player and he told me and showed me in the codex that:

"The pulse carbine sacrifices range for portability and the chance to mount an underslung photon grenade launcher. Any unit suffering at least one wound from the pulse carbine fire must test for pinning." page 29 Tau Empire Codex

Now i understand that the Tau codex is based on the 4th edition and we don't have a GW faq on it. But as I have read in the 5th edition rule book quote:

"Pinning, if a unit suffers any unsaved wounds from a pinning weapon, it must immediately take a pinning test." page 31 Big Rule Book

My question is if the pulse carbine wounds a target and I make the armor save, do I have to take a pinning test on that unit? The Tau codex states that a unit suffering at least one wound must take a pinning test. It doesn't state that it has to be saved wounds, it just says wounds period. Should I go by the Rule book or the codex? I know it has been stated many times that codex always supersedes the rule book. I looked everywhere online and I have yet to see anybody talk about it. I just want to know what the forum's view is on this subject. In my game i just let it go and took my leaderships when i made my saves since the codex stated nothing about saved wounds. Please clarify as I just got back into 40k.

Yep, you haven't "suffered a wound" until after you fail any applicable saves.

Re:Tau Pulse Carbine??

Thank you so much for your replies, i really think GW needs to fix that later, if we ever get another codex. (not going to hold my breath) For this instance, I am going to use the BRB instead of the codex rules.

Thanks all

Tau Pulse Carbine??

Yeah it is suffer a wound, if I'm up against Tau i just let them use the current rules for pinning rather than the ones printed in the entry. Though by RAW both should apply as the weapon is listed as pinning and then also has another effect that causes a pinning check. It it should be 1 pinning check for each cardine causing an unsaved wound and an additional one should you take any wounds from any cardines.

Tau Pulse Carbine??

Half a dozen of one, 50% of the other.

An argument can be built either way however I would lean towards the 5e BBB interpretation, partly because that also rebuts the Target Lock issue.
