Lizardmen. . . Begginer friendly?

So I am considering going from my Tyranid forces in 40k (I love them so the codex is great but it is meh. . . but I digress) to Lizardmen in WHFB. My questions are;

What is the learning curve for the army compared to other armies?

What Should I look to get starting out?

What should I read to get a better understanding of the tactics?

Thank you for all your help!

~Lys

Lizardmen. . . Begginer friendly?

I found them to be pretty easy to pick up when I first started, granted, that was with the last book... Lizardmen have a lot of diversity in the army list. If you want to have a lot of options, Lizardmen are the way to go. There are lots of different ways to build an army that will hel you to learn all the basics of WHFB with ease.

For a decent start, I would get the book and a battalion. You get a really nice spread of units, not to mention you will save a nice chunk of change! The Battalion will give you 1000+ points to play with. Look through the book, see what you like and keep building from there!

If you want to read more there are a few decent site you can look to.

http://www.lustria-online.com/

http://www.pyramidvault.net/index.asp

Both are decent, look around; there are some decent discussions over how Lizardmen work. Other than that, reading over some basic tactic stuff for WHFB in general is a good idea, too.

I suggest not buying anything short of Paints/Tools/Blisters/Armybooks from GW, the rest (basically mini's) should be bought from a retailer who gives 20+ % off. I use this one, which I couldn't be more happy of, and I know many others use it aswell.

http://www.waylandgames.co.uk/index.php

They are located in the UK, but the discount more then makes up for it (and shipping is SUPER low, no more then you would pay for someone shipping it to you in your own country.

Even paints I would not really buy from GW. I prefer Vallejo paints. Lizardmen are great though, good army to pick up and pretty forgiving. The cold-blooded rule is nice!

The Cold Blooded rule makes them very forgiving. You can goof on a few things, like say allowing your Skinks to get charged, and after they break and run, they've got a good shot at rallying.

The army can do a lot of different things well. The Saurus are rock solid in CC, and the Slann and Priest w/ EoTG are highly effective magic users. The only thing you'll run into is a lack of ranged firepower. That said, the poisoned attacks with the Skinks and Chameleons can be annoying to the opposing player.
