Safely removing glue or "Dis-assembling" models.

Just wondering if anyone has ever done this.

I have a ork Battlewagon that I'm considering redoing. It's only got the most basic parts assembled..Chassis, Treads, Wheels, Front section and and Open-topped rear section (no Guns, Weapons or accesories and I even left the front "cow-catcher" part off). I've been considering trying to pull it apart and add some bulk to it with Plasticard.

Does anyone know if there is a product that can successfully remove the glue or make it easier to disassemble? I've been considering attempt to gentley pull the pieces apart because I've found that with a gentle, firm pulling pressure models often can be taken apart. However, I wouldn't mind having something to remove the glue with as well.

theres been numerous threads about this, what ive discovered is, if your using plastic glue, the only way to do it is pull it apart. you can try putting it in the freezer then trying. I have never done that but apparently it makes it easier.

if you dont know already the plastic glue actually melts the plastics together, causing a very strong bond. strength varies due to the ammount of glue that you use and also how thick the joins are. for instance it would be very difficult to take apart eldar arms if they have used alot of plastic glue because they are very nimble.

If you used superglue, you can soak the glued spot in acitone (fingernail polish remover) and that will desolve/soften the glue enough to pull parts apart. If you used plastic cement, you're gonna have to get in there with clippers/saw/etc. and cut the parts apart.

I have had some limited luck in using Simple Green. After a day or two it sometimes will weakin the hold the glue has on the model. It still takes some doing to get the pieces apart. Worth a try as it isn't going to hurt the model - just the paint.

Re:Safely removing glue or "Dis-assembling" models.

Personally I only use superglue just out of personal preference. Even then, I've found it really does depend on the glue... even different brands of cyanoacrylate superglue can have different results. I agree with the simple green; sometimes it has worked to make the glue more brittle so it can be "chipped" or "popped" off. I just recently had some luck using that Castrol Super Clean stuff that is so highly recommended for paint stripping. Super Clean caused some of my superglue to pop off easily. In any case, if removing superglue I highly recommend getting some dental picks, then try to pick it off like plaque. :-) Good luck!
