PayPal is usually a very safe way to pay... Essentially, the website Adepticon had would automatically direct you through a Paypal cart to pay for your registration.

What the hacker did was switched that to a cart of his/her own, so as you where going through the process of paying for your registration, you though everything was fine, but you where really giving your card information to somebody else.

Adepticon waives my badge fee for the hassle, and I had a very nice conversation with Hank from Adepticon. AdeptiCon staff have been personally calling individuals affected today to explain the issue and have appreciated the understanding and patience. It certainly has been an inconvenience to all of us.

With the cart already scheduled to close on March 20th AdeptiCon staff made the decision in light of this breach to close the webcart early. Remaining event tickets will be available to purchase onsite.

AdeptICon 2010 is going to be one heck of a time .. see everyone in a few weeks.
