this si the list ive been toying with for some time. ive had a bit of a break from GW is general, but i like to keep the ruleset fresh in my head so i can help out other people who want to learn.

so here we go:

Runelord
anvil of doom
GW
Shield
RoPreservation (no KB or poison)
RoResistance (Reroll armor saves)
RoStone (+1 armor)
RoSpellbreaking (scroll)
RoSpellbreaking (scroll)

Thane
BSB
RoFury (+1 str)
RoFire (Flaming attacks)
RoFurnace (immune to fire)
MRoGromril (1+ save))

20 warriors
full command
shields

20 warriors
full command
shields

20 warriors
full command
longbeards
shields
MRoGrungi (5+ ward vs shooting to units within 6 inches)

20 slayers
musician

20 hammerers
full command
shield
RoCourage (immune to fear/terror)

Bolt thrower
engineer
RoPenetration (+1 str)

Bolt Thrower
engineer
RoPenetration (+1 str)
RoBurning (Flaming attack)

Organ gun

Organ gun

my basic set up is have the longbeards central with the bsb in there, with a warior unit on each side, the slayers and hammerers on the close flanks. i usually put a BT and OG on each side of the longbeards, so they can get some help from the MRoGrungi to help alleviate them getting shot up. i shoot the big/scary stuff. try to alleviate flyers/incorpreal units with the anvil, and use it for charges when need be.

i like blocks in my dwarf force, i found that the gunline type armies usually fail if anything gets through the guns. once the enemy has weathered the storm, they have to deal with 5 fully ranked blocks.

thoughts?

Dwarf 2250 all comers

Hey, some thoughts.

I agree with you that it pays to take some combat blocks, but taking ZERO thunderers (with that oh so lovely +1 to hit) seems like a mistake to me. You'll be glad you've got them when they panic that whole swarm of clanrats or murder those dark riders threatening your flank. If you give them shields, they're also actually a viable flank-charging unit, as they're very survivable at Ws4 T4 4+ save.

Slayers are a questionable choice, and 20 is probably too many. they are VERY easy to shoot. You can mitigate this by keeping them within 6" of the banner on your longbeards, but that only helps so much.

You should consider a rune of courage on your hammerers. they're stubborn, true, but frequently outnumbered and likely to auto-break to those 22 zombies. A rune of stoicism might also be helpful for this. Both is lots of fun.

Ro Fury is +1 attack, not +1 str. And why a rune of the furnace? are you worried about dragons?

I also suggest you drop one warrior block and take a combat thane. You can go with the popular Thane of Pain build (Ro Cleaving, 2x Ro fury, ro stone, shield. 5 S5 attacks, 3+ save). You could also take a Tank Thane (some variations, but mainly a great weapon with MRo Kragg the Grim and Ro Fury (4 s6 attacks), Rune of preservation, rune of fire, rune of stone. You need something to challenge choppy characters or they'll devour your warrior blocks singlehanded.

My thoughts. A balanced dwarf army is MUCH more fun to play, and to play against, than a straight gunline. So props for that. Good luck!

The slayers are a little more numerous than you probably need, and I assume the musician was because you had points to spare?

I personally haven't been running any stacks of core shooters (x-bows or guns) and haven't really missed them. If you're going to be on the move, they take up a large footprint, and create vulnerable things for your enemy to pick up. Organ guns are more threatening than they are for less points, and both are good at hitting the same kind of targets.

The runelord might have more protection than is strictly necessary, but your mileage may vary.

If you want the third character, here's a setup I like:

BSB: MR of Gromril, Rune of Preservation, Rune of Resistance, Rune of Fire and Furnace or Rune of Striking

and

Thane of Pain: MR of Swiftness, Rune of Cleaving, Rune of Fury, Rune of Stone, shield

Points could be from dropping one warrior block to a 10 strong diverter (losing the command) and trimming a few slayers or Runelord runes.

@ Malleus: Furnace is for protection from Rule of Burning Iron, which Slann and High Elves especially, will use to snipe you out of your unit. Even worse with bane head!

RZ

Stoicism is great, and I find opponents are more surprised by it than rune of battle. I'm strongly considering rotating it back in to my current list instead of Courage on longbeards. For a long time, if I was only taking one rune, that was usually it.

RZ

lictor marbo wrote:get rid of 10 slayers and the rune of preservation as the runelord is already immune to killing blow being unit strengh 5 which is fixed.

This is still debatable, though I don't want to start an argument about it here. Our local tournaments rule that he can be killing blowed. I wouldn't argue with an opponent who thought that they could be.

get rid of an organ gun and change the bsb to : mr o gromil, are o cleaving and are o fury. then get a grudge thrower with are o accuracy and are o penertation. then play about with the spare points. a master engineer is an idea as he helps grudge thrower to nearly always direct hit. if you are good at guess ranging then these things are deadly to all being strength 5 around the hole.

Not sure what you were writing this on. Does Dakka have some kind of auto-correct thing if you just put lower case "r" down? Are o fury?

Seems like it.

Anyhow, to the points, don't think much of the master engineer in most cases. It's a hero slot, and I don't think his effects really warrant an extra 70 points on to your warmachine. For that much, you could about buy another one, you know? Only for all out gunlines if you ask me, though others have found them more useful than I.

RZ

I wonder if this list would defeat the one I posted up. Would certainly make for an interesting contest. Anyway, back on topic. I would swop the slayers for some miners. Slayers just seem to die to easily these days and if your needing a tarpit, then you've always got the hammers to do the business.

Dwarf 2250 all comers

Yo Studder, still digging on this list. Nice to see a dwarf list that brings numbers (101 infantry!) and wants to fight, and I do love to see lists with min characters. The double organs are the only thing I balk at, but gyros have so many uses that maybe going 2x OG instead of OG + gyro is a fairly equal trade.

- Salvage

I do think that the list would be as strong or stronger with a gyro, and you'd get less people wincing than with the double organ gun. Both those things accomplish a lot that others can't.

Curiously, my list comes to 101 infantry too... with an extra 3 if you count the characters...

RZ
