Insect Wings

I was hoping that someone round here could tell me how to make/model insect wings. I'm trying to convert a Nurgle Daemon Prince, and was hoping someone could help. Since I used the Fly head from the swawn spruce i figured I should roll with the idea. So thanks in advance, all comment are welcome and appreciated.

keep any eye out for those cheap rubber flys you can get at walmart or whatever. I'm sure you could find one with the right scaled wings, then just rip them off. Good Luck! sorry I couldn't be more help.

Buy thin clear plastic sheet.
Cut into wing shapes. You probably want to use several panels for each wing if the model is as large as a Daemon Prince.
Scribe veins with a needle for extra detail. These can be painted or left clear.

I printed bug wings for my nids on tracing paper, its easy to do and to replace damaged wings if need be, you can cover them in transparent varnish for protection. Also its relatively easy to find insect wing diagrams on the net so all you have to do is use a program (corel draw for me) to fit as many as you can on a sheet of paper and presto you have a set of wing + a few spares to keep around in case of damage or if you want more models of the same type.

Insect Wings

Hm. I remember a technique I saw awhile back where someone recommended taking some leaves that were the right shape and size for the wings and covering them with PVA glue. Let it dry and the peel the leaves from the glue. Trim the semi-transparent dried glue panel to the appropriate shape and use thin wire to give it a little more structure, where needed.

They're detachable and usually travel with my army list print outs, it's easy to do this because they're light, and don't need a lot to stay on, i use slits in the model to just "plug" them in on the spot i also tend to have extras just in case some get damaged. I even go as far as to take sheets of wings that are yet to be cut out if i travel long distance to mitigate the risk of crumpling.

It's not that great of a picture. But I have insect wings on both my daemon princes and my converted flamers.

Those are insect wings that you can buy at Michaels. Wasps on the daemon princes and bee's on the flying squigs. I inked the wings with ogryn flesh to make them fit in a bit more with the rest of the army.
