Now I have to admit I knew full well that Simon could be a challenge to live with, he can be incredibly arrogant, petty and reluctant to actualy tell you if there is a problem, prefering to mumble or slam cupboard doors until you either psychicly work out whats going on or gakker him with a frying pan.
Having said all this, he pays his bills on time, is neat and tidy, quiet and happy to muck in with house work and so on. For me this was ideal, even though we weren't best of friends we could at least tollerate each other.

Something else which you need to know about Simon is that he is not a practical person in any way. He is also very bad at admiting his weaknesses or seeking help. I tend to be the opposite, this means that I tend to do any DIY/maintainance that comes up and am more than happy to admit when I feth things up. Simon was content to let me sort out things like new guttering and plumbing whilst he dusted and cut the lawn (makes us sound like a gay couple!). This worked well until Simon got a girlfreind, suddenly he was desperate to prove his manliness, this resulted in several amusing episodes including painting the hall way ceiling with gloss and trying to put up wall paper with a prit-stick (I gak you not!)



Anyway a couple of months back we decided that come spring we would sell the house, he wants to move in with his girlfriend and I want to move in with mine. As with any house you want it to look as good a possible before you sell so i put together a list of jobs to get done, most of it was fairly small (insulating the loft etc) so we (and by we I mean I) worked our way through the list leaving just one job left. Repair the garden fence. During the winter one of the posts had come loose and needed replacing by concreting in a new one and re-attaching the old panels. Simple. At least thats what I thought...

After telling Simon we needed to wait for good weather he saw an opporuntiy to impress his girlfriend and show her his manly credentials, he removed both panels managing to rip the bottoms of both and then spent an hour and a half taking out the old post (it was only stuck in with a spike!) He then digs a hole which looks more like the opening for a second chanel tunnel. All of this in the rain and whilst its getting dark. Deciding that letting him continue with the task is a bad idea I waited until the next day, which was dry, and filled in most of the hole (I also appologised to the neighbours he hadn't bother to tell we were ripping down our fence) I then concreted in a new post, making sure it was the right heigh and prefectly level. I left a note saying to leave it for a good 24 hours to dry and went off to see the girlfriend. I get back the next day ready to check the post only to see numpty boy has attached the panels whilst the concrete was still wet, not only has the new post set at a massively wonky angle, he has manged to damage another panel and dislodge another post.

Unless you count 'Night Of The Living Washing Up' when I flat shared. Having had a pop at them, they countered by complaining about 'alll my stuff left in the front (communal) room'. So I went in, yep, it was a tip. That's just karma showing you how it doesn't exist, and fething you up the rear in the process. You'll get used to it.

Ironically, despite my world weary demeanor, my biggest weakness is that I want to see the good in humanity, and thus I am way too trusting of strangers, and have to be careful not to get taken advantage of.
