Painting Power weapons?

Does anyone have any tips on painting power weapons?

I usually try and make a "lightning" effcet by doing progressively thinner jagged lines of enchanted blue, ice blue and skull white. It looks ok but not as good as i would like.

I see some pics where people manage to really amazing looking coruscating effects on their weapon. Another method that realy caught my eye was the effect on the Glaives encarmine on the sanguinary guards from last months WD.

Does anyone have any tips on how to get good, powerful looking power weapons?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Praxiss , what i tend to do when painting power weapons is put the underneath a UV ( Ultraviolet light ) nd wherever the light is shining on the power weapon i paint ice blue in thin lines diagonally covering the light area and then highlight this with waterd down skull white , this is for a blue power weapon i am guessing that this would work with other colours also.

Hope this is helpful to you ~UnDeAd~

Can you blend? If so i nice way to do power weapons is to pick a colour and make the centre of the blade a dark version of that colour blending out to the edges of the blade being straight white.

I've never managed to pull off blending but i'm willing to give it a go. For some reason i can never getteh colout transitions to look smooth. :(

So say i was painting a sword and i wanted a blue effect.....

Paint the whole thing regal blue, then slowly try to blend out to enchanted blue, ice blue and then edge it in white?

Making the blend presumably i start with the darkest colour and slowy add mor eand more of the light colout into it, right?

Undead, you use UV paint or a UV light? Do yo ahve any pics coz that sounds interestign but i can't picture it.

If you get a slow-drying agent that you can add to your paints on a palate, they'll dry much slower and allow you to have more time to blend. That should do the trick.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

Praxiss wrote:Paint the whole thing regal blue, then slowly try to blend out to enchanted blue, ice blue and then edge it in white?

I wouldn't. I've heard white gets washed out pretty easily. So start with white and go darker, and make sure to keep it nice and bright.

Check out last month's WD i.e. the one before Blood Angels (Battle Mission's cover?). They do a great painting workshop on reflective blades that looks amazing. You need blending powers though, which is currently beyond me.
