seeming as i am totally nooby when it comes to SW's history/background. . I would like if anyone had some facts (according to the 40k universe) about the wulfen curse. It reads to me as kinda a werewolf thing, slowly turning man to wolf (or marine to wolf so to speak) . . pls enlight me

you have actually hit it on the nose.

it a transformation that all SWs are slowly falling to. it can however be staved off indefinitly(at least its progress)

many initiates fall shortly after drinking from the Cup of Wulfen.

the transformation is normally slow, but any transformation is permanant.

I am not sure what the SWs do with Wulfen when they transform.

the 13th company(currently in the EOT) have a huge number of their members transformed.

A Wulfen is feral, but can be controlled by the Wolf Priests(and the primary purpose of the Wolf Priests is to safeguard against the transformation)

they remain self aware, but have little to no control over their basic animal actions.

the wulfen curse??

Well, I'm not entirely sure, but I think it goes as follows.

The "curse of the wulfen," is in fact a genetic disorder brought about by the implantation of the chapter's gene-seed. Due to the unstable Canis helix, the recipient's body and mind will effectively become feral for a time, until the rest of the gene-seed is implanted, stabilizing it. Now, sometimes it isn't possible to stabilize it fully, and the Space Wolf will revert to his feral form when under duress, such as in battle. This is usually temporary, I think, unless it happens for an extended period of time.

Not entirely sure, though.

EDIT: Guy above know it, so listen to him.

Grey Templar wrote:
I am not sure what the SWs do with Wulfen when they transform.

If they can't return into their "normal" self, I would assume they get sent into their death ( like BA allow the lost to serve even in death ). Those aspirants falling to the wulfen curse at the final test seem to stay in the wilderness of Fenris.
Falling later as a fully grown space marine may present serious issues ( how would any allied imperial force member react to
such transformation ? ) as any abhuman or 'beast' may suffer from mankinds xenophobia.
