Experimental fast Nid list 1500 points

I wouldn't even bother with Shrikes, i know they are are a cool choice but i'd say but huge broods of gargoyles work so much better.
This is why shrikes don't work.

If they DS in, they cannot assault first turn which means they will have to get a shot at for at least 1 turn, and since they do not have a 4+ save like normal warriors bolters just mow whole units down.
If the enemy decides his 2 units of tactical marines are going to shoot your shrikes, they are going to die if they're within 12", and 1 turn of shooting can deprive you of multiple 55 point models.

Whereas with 30 strong gargoyle brood, its very difficult to remove the whole brood in 1 turn, and the brood is only 180 points which is 95 points cheaper than your shrikes. Gargoyles also provide range support, and they can turn the tides in combat due to their blinding venom special rule, but as a rule of thumb, field lots of gargoyles or none at all.

Venomthropes look good on paper, but i've fielded them before and they don't really.

Since this list is aimed at being fast i'd swap out the awesome tervigon because he will get left behind as your whole army surges foward, what i'd do is swap him out for either a large hormgaunt brood, or a smaller hormagaunt brood with toxin sacs.

Other than those few points the list is looking pretty good as a fast list even though i'm not a fan of harpys.

Experimental fast Nid list 1500 points

Your tyrant is still mixed up trying to pop tanks and assault. While that is a good tactic in a way because you can assault survivors out of a transport, the venom cannon isn't a huge tank popper. I'd rather let something else pop the tank and then assault or let rip with anti infantry shots.

You only need to take termagants in minimum units to get tervigons. Why pay for troops when you can get them for free? You should take tervigons in pairs btw because it will be targetted and killed; without it no troops and without troops you lose objective games. If anything take catalyst and adrenal glands, not toxin sacs. Also cluster mines are better as you're not counting on BS3 to hit.

Shrikes are wishy-washy. They can move fast but with a 5+ armour save even bolters can plough through them. I'd probably drop these and get ravenors; a much better choice.

I hope that helps!

Re:Experimental fast Nid list 1500 points

I'm gonna disagree with some things that have been said.

HVCs are not useless and are perfectly good for stalling out vehicles. And it gives the Tyrant something to do while he's getting shot to pieces. Against IG you have an uphill battle to begin with and there's almost no amount of AT 'Nids can bring to the table that can stop them. Against AV 14/13 you have to use Carni's and/or Tyranofexes. But against AV <13 HVCs are quite effective. a Leman Russ that can't shoot, is almost as good as destroyed. I in fact would prefer a 1 or 2 on the damage table to a 3 or 4 in some situations.

Harpies are not superawesomeomg, but they are definetly worth their points. They are a mid-field layer between some Gargoyles in front and objective holders in the back. Anytime you can get a MC with wings and assault grenades, I'm all for it. Harpies have excellent mobility and can reinforce whever they are needed. Have a pesky squad of scouts/pathfinders/snipers harassing you from cover? Not anymore!

Tervigons hanging back is not a bad thing. They capture objectives in the middle of the board and in your deployment zone while the rest of the army engages the enemy in other parts of the board.

Shrikes are another story. I've used them a few times now and I have had extremely mixed results. Against a good player, they won't be able to do their job unless you have ample terrain to hide them in/behind. With three wounds those dangerous terrain tests are worth it for the 4+ cover. They are great for hitting heavy infantry and can even take on a decent size squad of fodder, but I think in general another Harpy or big unit of Gargoyles is a better choice to support the already fast Tyrant and harpies.

yay another supporter of the HVC!!!

I love the Harpy, been very solid thus far. The harpy works great when you can provide greater threats on the table so that they cant rip the harpy to shreds. Hes not the toughest creature, but still requires focus fire to bring down.

In this list the tervigon should be hanging back defending an objective and spawning troops and sending them forward or just bolster to the current objective making it very difficult to shift.

Shrikes are a poor choice and I think they should of stayed as troops with the ability to purchase wings. Between the Harpy, Gargoyles and Raverners youre hard pressed to want fit in the shrikes.

Your tyrant is going to get wrecked, you arent providing enough multiple threats to keep the pressure off of your big bugs. Not really sure how you intend to win to be honest.

If I were to play against you, I would get rid of the tervigon and then the tyrant and the rest of the army just falls apart.

With tyranids you need to keep in mind that you need to synapse over lapping.

You need to provide multiple threats at all times to ensure you can bring the fight to the enemy in true tyranid fashion. It is a close combat oriented army after all.

I'd like to be more clear about what I meant by HVCis useless. I meant it is useless on a Tyrant.
