I've thought hard about doing primarily black with yellow additions but I'm afraid it will look too unfinished due to the large amount of black.

Searching online still hasn't yielded a bunch of nice looking options. It seems like Bad Moon vehicles are pretty damn tough to do do right.

What do you guys think? That one is great. The yellow is really heavy for my tastes, but it looks much nicer than my personal attempt (now stripped) did!

Jeff's decision to tone the yellow down and keep it mostly black seems key.

It's decades old but is still actually a rather similar style to that far more modern Land Raider. That's an excellent example of the bright, old-school method of doing Bad Moon tanks.
