Apocalypse Formation Painting: Warp Rift

As a few of you may know I like playing games of apocalypse and I am building too another game in just a few weeks, I have had a few boxes of the new plastic Khorne Bloodletters since Christmas and I had bought a Skaven Vermin Lord to convert into a Bloodthirster because I believe that the new Bloodletters don't fit with the old Bloodthirster model. I think its because the large brutish axe wielding Bloodthirster doesn't mix with the lean, mean, sword wielding, killing machines that Bloodthirsters have been re-modelled into. But more on that model later when I am finished with my green stuff.

I have thought of various paint schemes for my warp rift formation but I settled on brass because I don't have the time too paint them red. But its also because I made my own version of Taurox the Brass Bull for my Beastmen (using an ogre gorger) and realised that Brass bodies look amazing and are easy to paint, a worthy investment if you want to make something stand out.

But its going to take 32 models to make something stand out in an apocalypse game, so I need to batch paint myself 32 brass bodied Bloodletters and frankly I thought I would just get it out of the way. So I have set aside a few hours tonight to batch paint these guys.

Right now I am waiting for them to dry while I right this so this is just a kind of base coat for the Inking I will do tomorrow morning when I am sure they are dry. (there is nothing worse than metallic flakes in an ink)

Stage 1: Black Undercoat
Stage 2: Dwarven Brass Bodies
Stage 3: Dheneb Stone Horns
Stage 4: Macherite Red Swords/Blood on the Totem.
Stage 5: Boltgun Metal Sword Handles

Although this guy is far from finished, it gives you an idea of what I am looking for right now, next stage is to ink before I get working on the bases with Codex Grey for my urban scheme.
I will give you guys another update tomorrow when I have inked and highlighted these guys.

I love it! The brass is so simple a recipe, but makes such a difference - there's no way these wouldn't stand out on the battlefield. Obviously, they still need a little work (like the washing) but the level you've got them to so far is already striking.

Inking done, here are a few pictures.

I used a watered down Devlan Mud but when that was too weak I added in some Scorched Brown. It also added a warmth too the ink.
Because I washed the entire model with a rediculous amount of liquid I have to let the models dry for a few hours before I start on stage 2 which is basically re-high lighting. Before I move onto stage 3, the base.
