I base with that (over black primer) give it a dark wash, then highlight with Red Gore; then I further highlight with mix of red gore: blood red, then finally just blood red.

Try a dark flesh base with a liberal dose of teracotta on top. If that's still a bit too brown then go ahead and mix some red in.
