That could easily change once the new edition comes out.

Both suffer from being T3 low-armor forces overall. Both can crush most armies if played correctly. Played incorrectly, they are crushed instead. DE have much better shooting (albiet shorter range)

DE have much better combo/character/unit synergy for stacking abilities.

DE have shades which are better than shadow warriors

DE have dark riders who are much better than the HE reavers

DE have Hydras

DE have better spells and the ability to generate a ton of power dice.

I'd say DE by a long margin.
