Objective capturing unit for BA?

Hi guys.

Just wondering what you think would be a good objct. capturing unit for my BA army im slowly working out the list for.

Ive heard assault marines cant capture ojectives? Not 100% sure about this as im hazy on the rules after not playing for a fair while.

If they cant, do you have any suggestions? ive noticed the 6 man ASM squad in razorback is a common way, but not sure how great it is, as most games i see played where i am dont really go for the objct. capturing scenario and just go for a fun game. But it would still be nice to have a list with units that can cap so I dont have to change out my list when i play other games.

Assault Marines can, they're just not very good at it. Death Company can't.

It mostly depends on the other stuff you have and whether you just want to hold an objective or run out and grab an objective instead. The other alternate is kill everything so it doesn't matter.

Just don't combat squad Assault Marines and try to hold them that way

Objective capturing unit for BA?

Well I don't play BA, but I've never lost against them this codex

I guess just like normal marines but more assault orientated. Also Deep Striking Land Raider sounds cool but it's size and the reserve rules means it's not going to come in when you want it and if it does it can crash because of its large size.

Death Company seem cool, but don't take a huge unit of them because they become a point sink. Power weapons easily take care of them. All the tanks are fast so the Vindicator has a 6" longer range than the others, but keep in mind the large blast can hit many of your assault guys if you're not careful. Also your guys could keep it from shooting if they're too close to the target.

From what I've seen people get the sang guard and the sangy and run them up into assault. While it works it can be pretty easy to outsmart.

Usually when this happens my Wraithlord shoots the guard to pieces before they even get into melee with the Star Cannon. Also I only really take the Avatar to direct enemies away from other stuff in the army. Those two together usually solves that problem for me.

Also the Rage rule on the Death Company, and whatever else, can allow them to be led around by more faster units. So keep that in mind when you're moving stuff up.

The Special Characters seem a bit over powered, but I usually avoid taking them anyway. Though I once saw Mepheston die due to trying to fly out of a crater with the magic wings. He had one wound left from some squad shooting at him, then tried to fly and got a 1

So pretty much just remember that even though some stuff seems awesome it can always just be a guise and to assume that they would be the best thing ever would be dumb.

TL;DR: Run at them carefully and get into assault I guess. DSing Land Raiders are point sinks as are huge Death Company units.

Re:Objective capturing unit for BA?

I actually picked 1st position in the first ard boyz session with my BA and i'd be happy to tell you what works for me.

Sanguinary priests, i give mine power swords for some extra kick, but they give off a FC and FNP bubble witch you must have. YOU MUST HAVE!!! spread them out and watch your opponents get annoyed when they just cant drop any of the assault troops sitting on their doorstep.

Baal predators, the Firestorm cannon will instantly turn almost any unit into a pile of casualties and your enemies know this and will often put forward a lot of firepower to put them down quick so make sure to put some dozer blades on your predator and scout move it into ruins or just out of sight.

Combat squad everything. If you take tac squads split them and put the half without the heavy weapon in a razorback so they can go grab objectives.

My hammer unit is a reclusiarch with 5 death company inside a razorback. I use 3 power weapons in the death company, and the reclusiarch has a power fist. Even this small 5 man unit horribly overkills everything it has charged so far and usually i dont even roll up the 2 normal DC and the reclusiarches attacks.

I run a furioso librarian, with might of heroes and wings of sang, he is very quick and nearly impossible to put down with FA 13 combined with his maneuverability.

Death company dread you pretty much have to drop pod in carefully, or they can spend some of the battle chasing shadows instead of using its blood talons to tear through all units near it.

As heavy support choices i generally bring two dreads at least, i dont usually have swarm problems because all my troops have FNP and the multimelta easily dispatches most vehicles.

This is optional, 2/3 of my assault squads are actually in drop pods and walk around on foot, they still get DOA and i think they look cooler on the table. Of course the real bonus is that first turn your opponent is trying to deal with 20 FNP assault marines and 2 baal predators and looking forward to a DC dread podding in along with another 10 jump infantry.

Re:Objective capturing unit for BA?

Assault Squads are still very good for taking objectives and like infamousxii pointed out the BA army excels with their force multpliers being medics, chaplains, Librarians or long range fire support from other aspects in your list. One of the great things about BA assault jumpers is you can dictate a fight in no mans land and still move quickly to reinforce or contest or snatch up other objectives in the last few turns of the game.

I also like the use of combat squads as well and knowing when to use combat squads vs when to leave the unit intact vs what armies comps and what scenarios just takes time to learn. Small combat squads can also be very annoying to deathstar units since the unit will get wiped in one round of fighting and expose the deathstar unit to your fire or gives them next to nothing to destroy and wastes one of their turns in the game for 125 point combat squad. Such a great and many times an underappreciated ability.
