Brake Fluid Stripper question

I recently put some models into brake fluid as a stripper. Had to leave town on short notice. Anyone ever use this stuff know how long you can leave GW plastics in it before Bad Things start happening, like crazed plastics or softened models or some such?

Brake Fluid Stripper question

It really depends. Since Brake Fluid isn't actually formulated with paint stripping or soaking polystyrene models in mind, it's properties and effects vary from brand to brand.

Some have no effect on plastic whatsoever. Some will make it soften, and may eat some detail over time. I've seen a couple of people over the years claim that brake fluid dissolved the models completely, but have never seen that happen myself.

Brake Fluid Stripper question

Last year while digging through my parent's house, I found an old jar of mini's in brake fluid (plastic and metal, no resin). They were there for probably 4 or 5 years and surprisingly ok except the plastic in certain areas did have a weird 'pitted' affect to them, which actually wasn't terrible.

Brake Fluid Stripper question

I've only had pleasent experiences with using brake fluid. Left a couple of old termies in a jar for six months before stripping them, and they looked as good as new.

But yeah, that might depend on the brand too. I can't remember the name of the one used, it's been in a jar far to long.

gl
